Resolutions on the Death
of Mrs. J. C. McDonald.
Resolutions passed by the
Daughters of the Confederacy
on the 1 death of Mrs J C Mc
Donald.
U Death is only a dream” has
been so beautifully sung and,and
and yet how real it is to those
into whose life a vacancy has
come, into which the shadows of
sorrow have fallen; they who miss
the loving presence, the gentle
ministrations, the glance of
affection, the wise council of one
■who is gone. How inexpressibly
real to those to whom Mrs J C
McDonald was wife, mother,
sister, f riend. The local Chapter,
Daughters of the Confederacy of
which Mrs McDonald was a
member, and served as its
honored president for two years,
would pay loving tribute to the
many no bid qualities of this faith
ful member.
Mrs McDonald made a most
efficient president, being a well
posed woman, intelligent and
cultured, she served with marked
ability and was ever capable of
advising well and wisely in all
matters of interest to the chap
ter. Therefore be it resolved.
1st. That we as a Chapter are
deeply sensible of our loss of so
excellent a member and would
express our sense of sorrow in
that we realize that she will not
again be with us and that we will
be deprived of her intelligent
advice and the wisdom of her
council.
2. Resolved that we will ever
hold in loving memory this true
Daughter of the Confederacy,and
trust that we may be inspired by
her life to be always faithful to
the [lofty principles and noble
purposes of the U D C which she
ever upheld, and that finally we
may be as she was, ready when
called home and as truly “Lie
down to pleasant dreams n
3rd. Resolved that we extend
to the family of this noble Daugh¬
ter of the Confederacy our
sincerest sympathy and pray,
that though in grief they may
rejoice in that so rich a heritage
is left them.
4th. Resolved that these reso¬
lutions be spread upon a page of
our minuts, a copy furnished the
Port Valley Leader for publi¬
cation, also a copy sent the family
of the deceased.

A Letter to Cousin Dave.
Dear Cousin Dave:
We haven’t heard
from you since you left, and are
afraid “you’re feeding swine in
a furrin country”. If you are
come back and get your old job
of “parting the calf”.
We have changed the Georgia J
Belle Hotel into one of these
u Weakly Boarding Houses”, and
have fed peach pickers, peach
packers,and entertained “Angels
unawares. >>
Some came by “falling but of a
balloon,” and some went “without
the light of the moon,” and theres
nothing left to tell the tale, ex¬
cept empty tobacco bags and
cigarett leaves and fumes of the
cigarett.
All of the “fust class,” went in
droves by themselves, and all the
others huddled together. You
could tell ’em apart by the way
they parted their hair in the
middle and said ‘amt yer,” and
the other fellow by the way he
used his fork,
You remember the tree near
th$ front steps? You remember
it had “amalgamalted grapes” on
it last fall? Well, it now has
English walnuts on it. If you
don’t get back before fall, we
want to know what to do with
them.
The Boys told me to tell you
they had buried old Sir John
Moore without the tap of the
drum, and hope you will find the
last resting place of your cousin
John Hale.
