BIG INDUSTRIAL COMPANY
PAYS WORKERS FOR IDEAS
In modern industry ideas are worth
money.
Big industrial companies realize
that suggestions from employes are
valuable from an efficiency stand¬
point—and are eager to pay well for
those accepted.
In the last seven years more than
50,000 suggestions have been re¬
ceived by the Goodyear Tire and
Rubber Company, which conducts a
department solely for this purpose,
from the rank and file bf its em¬
ployes.
hundred Money awards from five to one
dollars have oeen paid for
2,217 suggestions accepted from the
lotal number submitted.
Nearly one thousand dollars a
month is paid for suggestions to im¬
prove methods, change systems, and
to lessen fatigue.
American born workers have no
nionoply on the inventive faculties,
for every nationality is included in
the list of men and women to whom
awards have been made. Employes
who were farmers or laborers in the
country of their birth develop sur
prising keenness in the land of their
adoption and latent inventive fae- •
uliies are quickly evidenced. j
Approximately 7.000 suggestions j
are received yearly by the depart
ment delegated to handle them. The
merits of each is investigated thor¬
oughly and the opinion of the de
partment effected by the suggestions

C. C. Clevenger holds the Good¬
year records for the number of sug-
gestions accepted—eighteen of his
ideas having won awards. William
Getter, a plumber in the janitor ser¬
vice, has received money for eight
ideas, many of which suggested im¬
provements outside his department.
The company offers every oppor
tunity for employes to take a deep
interest in the management and op¬
eration of the immense plant and be¬
lieves that besides .he added eXficien
iy and better working conditions ob¬
tained, employes are taught observa¬
