from a trip to Wayne county. Ile

The street committee is getting
the streets and sidewalks in nice
shape for the crowd next Tuesday.
The closing exercises of the Ocilia
High School were very interesting,
and the banquet is said to have been
a success.

Miss Rosa Chauncey, the popular
primary teacher in the Ocilia High
School, returned to her home in
Florida last Saturday.
Prof. H. B. Sutton’s school at
•Brushy Greek is well attended,
which means it is popular. Bates
is an all-right teacher.

Irwin avenue, between Fourth
street and the northern town limits,
has been graded and-is being put in
trim for the races Tuesday.
Prof. B. B. Jones and his, charm¬
ing cousin, Miss Florence Trapnell,
of Abbeville, attended the banquet
at the academy Friday night, ! I
Visiting Masons of neighboring
lodges, who expect to take part in
the parade next Tuesday, are re¬

patch last week. It was chock full
of solid wisdom from start to finish,
and will doubtless accomplish much
good. And it cavne straight from
the pen of a farmer’s pretty little
daughter.
That she knows this to Ibe-a utili¬
tarian age, and that good house¬
keepers are above par. For this
reason (as well as others) she has
been diligently trying to perfect
herself in the culinary science and
in house-keeping generally. Some
day—well, Bates won’t have to use
wooden pegs for suspender
if what she is thinking about hap-
pens.

wide and favorable comment. It
was just such an article as is needed
to cause young men who content-
rilate leaving the farm to pause and
reflect befefre taking such a step.
When she wfOte the article she no
doubt was thinking of such success-
ful young farmers as Frank Paulk,
Davie Hogan. .Timmy Sutton, Char-
ley Tucker, others,' Sammy Mixon, and a
gutuber of and compared
their shccess with the lack of sue-
cess of some who had left the farm
and sOught easy jobs in towns.
We hope she wm not let her pen
rust, but that she will continue to
