C. News. An Empty Cache. A ease labeled “sodawater,” a hamper of provisions, a jug said to contain “bait” and a bundle of bed. ding left Tifton by the 3 p. m. train on the T. & N. E., not many moons ago, for a ]>oint on the Alapaha river. With it went two men. One was of the tribe of Ben Franklin, and much ink, like unto tar, was visible in bis hair and on his raiment. His face was clean shaven, except the mustache, arid the prongs of this were tied behind each ear in a how- knot. The other was a thoughtful looking man, fujl of wise sayings and other things. Arrived at a eer- Uin pojgt, t’qe rojuy.enatqy.s and qjlie-v t!)tygp w.qrc, disembarked, cachyd, and the fishermen, wended their way up tlje stream to angle for ipudcats. After tlie stars had twink¬ led s.evpi-fil-hours, tlje men returned to the cache, to find that everything was gone, Then a loud wail went up from hp of the tribe of Ben Franklin, and he stompt the ground and said many words with sulphur linings. There they were, in a river swamp, miles from the habital of man, dry, hungry, muddy, red-hot with a rage born of despair, no “sodawater,” no “bait,” no bedding -—nothing but darkness and tho night hawks around them. “Dam the river!” said lie of the tribe of Ben Franklin. “No use,” said his comrade in misery; “we have no tools and less inclination.” “I wish the fellow who stole our bee—soda- water, I mean,-—had a freight car, loaded with cayenne pepper, cross¬ wise in his stomach,” said he of the tpibe of Ben Franklin. “Better wish he hadn’t stolen our bee—-bait, I mean,” answered his sage vis-a-vis. A reselling party found them next morning, spitting cotton and talk¬ ing hoarsely of the cache with noth¬ ing in it. Meeting qf School Boarct. A few days ago the writer was shown, in the smokehouse of Mrs. Una Clements, at Irwinville, a large quantity of home-cured middlings, shoulders, hams and jowls, all as. nice and bright looking as it usually is a month or so after being cured, and entirely free from skippers. Editor Dispatch : Nothing is more generally condemned in the script- uros than hypocrisy, and nothing more universally indulged. It is seen everywhere, in everybody and enters into overy branch of business. The doctor deceives his pstiout, the lawyer his client, tho merchant bis customer, tho parent his child, the editor his—well, it is no use to enu¬ merate; it ip everywhere. The best old citizen in the country puts the best pickets on tho front yard, the best lumber on the front side of the house, tho host fonco along the road, lie plows, plants and cultivates first on tho road side, and generally fertilizes a little bet¬ tor next to tho road. Well, it is all right; no one can accuse him, be cause they all do the same thing. A young lady who was not a hypo¬ crite could hardly move in society, and would probably die and old maid. They must put on falso pre¬ tentions and seem to be what they are not, else they are left. An honest article can hardly be sold in our markets. A contractor cannot live and do honest work. Humbuggery has beat honest labor out of the market. But thore is a diversity of kinds of hypocrisy. One is the deceptive manner of some ladies in receiving unwelcome company. The lady visitor is met at the front door or at the yard gate, and with a broad smile, receives the unholy kiss; then follows the usual routino of apiolo- gies for the uncomely appearance of things, and tho visitor is led to be lieve that her visit is quite a treat, when, in fact, tho landlady will grumble for a week about being beat out of that day’s work and the worry of the children. But of all tho deceptions known to the human family, the one most bitterly condemned by the Divine Majesty is religious hypocrisy. Ev¬ ery religious pretention not fervent in spirit, is hypocrisy—“Drawing nigh unto mo with their lips while their hearts are far from me.” Are you a hypocrite? Don’t say no, and thus add falsehood to your hypocrisy. There will be yearly meeting at Hopewell church, Irwinville, On the first Sunday in August and Friday and Saturday before. Prof. Royal will bg present Sunday morning and desires as many of the singers of the vocal classes in tho county as can do so to meet him on that occa¬ sion, for singing exercises. “Our” class will doubtless be well repre¬ sented. Mr- Geo. Tucker has treated him¬ self to a nice new organ and reports are that lie is progressing rapidly in instrumental music under his amia¬ ble instructor, Mr. Nas Paulk. It is said that he is so full of the music, already imparted by Prof. Paulk, that even when he is not at tho in¬ strument, his feet and hands are continually moving upward and downward. At a meeting of the board of trus¬ tees of Ocilla High School last week, Pvof. W. N. Smith, of Rcidsville, was elected principal and Rev. M. I,. Lawson assistant for the next scholastic year. Prof. Smith and Rev. Lawson are both well known as fine educators and we bespeak for the peoplo of Ocilla a flourishing and profitable school year.—Abbe¬ ville Chronicle. Mr. J. B, Swiiley and Miss Mary Jane Brogilen, daughter of Mr. James Brogdon, -were married at the residence of the bride’s parents last Sunday, Elder Archie McMillan of¬ ficiating. The attendants were: Mr. Julian Brogden and Miss Mary Jane Swiiley, Mr. Jas. Spivey and Miss Rebecca Brogden. The Dis¬ patch wishes the young coyplo hap¬ piness and prosperity. Those who have subscribed to the fund for building a Baptist church in Ocilla arc respectfully requested to come forward and pay the amounts, as the building is now in progress and the money is needed. If subscribers cannot pay all, they are requested to pay part now, and the balance at the earliest possible moment. Money should be paid to Mr. Warren Paulk, church treasurer. Judge J, B. Clements, who pre¬ sides over the county court with so much honor to himself and profit to the county, is one of the most ex¬ tensive as as among the best fanners in the county. He has about three hundred acres in culti¬ vation this year, and the various crops are very fine, lie has perhaps the largest field of cotton in the county; and the cotton is doubtless the largest in the county, age con¬ sidered . m 3 ‘ .. --vv-v.q-a v. n ^*§1 *, . “v iSf* L&olt in Your Mirror Do you see sparkling eyes, and a healthy, tinted skin, ft sweet attractions expression the a grace¬ result ful form ?
