: Local Legislation. Owing to t lie illness of lion. Wm. Ileimergon, the following local hills for Irwin were introduced by Hem- tar \\ ilcox Wednesday ol last A bill to provide tor the j>ayment by the county of Irwin of the costs due officers for services aetu- ally rendered in all misdemeanor cases where the parties convicted are under sentence worked in co.mty chain gang or the public roads or other public works of county. A bill to fix the compensation of jurors and bailiffs of the superior court of Irwin county, and provide the manner of payment of the same. We have not seen the bills. The first shows the purpose of the bill. The second is not self-explanatory. Valuable Hints to Ntothern. Never let a child sob itself toslcep Onions in any form are good for children. When,a child refuses to cat him have his own way. A little borax in baby’s water is good for his skin. Oil of cloves will, often cure an aching tooth. Mustard plasters made with the white of an egg do not blister. Cats carry sore throats and (lip- tberia from house to house. A hair mattress is better than a feather bed. To insure pure water for drinking purposes boil it. if a child’s clothes catch fire in¬ stantly roll him on the lloor. — Mc¬ Call’s Magazine. Uncle Joe Norman came in town Monday with several bales of short cotton which he held over from last year hoping to get a better price for it. His hopes were realized, we might say fully, for he probably did not expect, when he decided to hold the cotton, to ever realize as much for it as he was paid Monday. The advance was more than two and one half cents, It isn’t always safe to hold cotton, but this is one instance in which it paid.—Moultrie Ob- server. The “Plow Boy Preacher,” Rev. J.
