The Dispatch orphanage garden

presented by the Cracker Store boys.
Mr, Seab Arnold has sold his
stables to a Mr. Lott, of Douglas,
who will conduct the business in
future.
The Ocilla Lodge conferred the
E. S. degree on a number of can-
dates, including six ladies, Wednes¬
day night.
Contractor Feltes began moving
the postoffice yesterday to the
vacant lot east of Mr. J. A. J. Hen¬
derson’s store.
Miss Bettie Luke, of Irwinville,
joined the Bowen’s mill picnic
crowd at Fitzgerald and took in the
picnic.
Miss Aural Hobbs attended to
the postoffice Thursday, in the ab-
sauce of Mr. Jeff Googe at the Bow¬
en’s Mill picnic.
Crops of all kinds are doing well,
The rains have been falling just
right, and a bountiful harvest is al¬
most assured.

Miss Beitha Bertram, Miss Nora
McNeil, and Master Henry McNeil,
her pupils, were pleasant callers at
the Dispatch office Saturday. Miss
Bertram was en, route to Fitzgerald
to the Teachers Institute.
Judge Marcus Luke and Dr. J. C.
Luke returned from Louisville
Tuesday afternoon. They report
having had a glorous time. They
visited the wonderful Mammoth
cave while away.

The new street lights are giving
good satisfaction. The town coun-

Nir. John Ewing Killed.
Mr. John Ewing, aged about 21
years, son of Judge David Ewing,
of this county, who was employed
at Mr. Charlie Grantham’s mill near
Mrs. M.V. S. Whitley’s, while step¬
ping across the log carriage, just in
front of the saw, Thursday morn¬
ing, stumbled and fell on the saw,
receiving a frightful cut across the
right groin and hip, from which he
died soon after.
Mr. Jimmy AYhilley came to town

' y oun g man was dead when he
reached him, having died soon after
the accident.
The bereaved family have the
sympathy of the county.

Dublin Courier-Dispatch: The
Mayor of Tifton recently served no¬
tice upon himself as general man-
ager of the Tifton and Northeastern
Railroad, that more equitable freight
rates were desired and must be had.
It remains to be seen which will
triumph. Mayor Boatwright or
General Manager Boatwright.
Washington, June 5. There is
reason to believe that the president
bas decided to appoint General Jo-
sejih Wheeler a brigadier-general in
the regular army to fill the vacancy
which will he created by the confir¬
mation by the senate of General
Otis’ new appointment as major-
general. It is assumed by personal
friends of General Wheeler that it is
s purpose to retire within a short
time after his appointment.

ing relatives here this week.
Mr. Thos. Luke, who has been
seriously ill, is slowly improving.

The recent completion of the
telephone line from Ocilla to jfwin-
ville is proving a source of much
; convenience. With a railroad to
follow, our little burg will rapidly
forge into a metropolis.
We endorse the sentiment of the
Ebonezer correspondent in the as¬
sertion that Bone Pond is a bonnie
place for a picnic, and make every
assurance that Irwinville will be rep¬
resented there June 30th.
The “practical pencil pusher” ten¬
ders thanks to the editor of the Dis-
patch for the pen name given him.
But deeming him better versed in
the freaks of pets than in the chi-
; rography of individuals, he will con-
tinue to “push on” under the origi-
nal.
