Mr. Tom Howevi a:xl wife visited Ocilla Wcndnesday. Peaches are bringing 50 cents to $1 a bushel in Ocilla, Yearly meeting at Willacoochee and Valley Grove Sunday. Mr. J. F. Rogers is out, after a severe spell of typhoid fever. Col. C. II. Martin left Wednesday for a week’s visit to relatives in Cuthbert. ■Candidate Wiley Whitley spent a few hours in Ocilla Saturday af- ternoon. It rained the first dog day, which j means rain for forty days, say the ,veathei--wise ; The Alapaha road from Ocilla to -the Alapaha river is said to be in very bad condition. Correspondents will please leave indorsements of candidates out of their communications. The difference between accept and except is, you except to accepting a promise’for a fulfillment. Eight commercial evangelists visi¬ ted Irwinville Wednesday. They know a goed thing when they see it. Mr. John L. Mixon treated us to a dozen peaches Tuesday that just -could not be excelled in exoellent flavor. We Hearn that Mr. J. R . Harper has some of the largest peaches in the county. They are the White Wine peach. A number Of t)he wealthiest citi¬ zens of the coronty have taken stock in the cotton factory, to be built near Fitzgerald. Mr. and Mrs. James Hill are now comfortably domiciled at the home of Mrs. S. J. Barnett, corner-Beach and Ffth streets. The Dispatdh orphange is under obligations to Mr. Geo. Mixon for an immense Triumph melon brought in last -Saturday. Miss Rosa Knight, of Adel, a •charming sister of Mrs. T. S. Wil¬ liams, has been visiting the latter tfor several weeks past. Miss Emma Knight, of Adel, and Miss' Lois Allen, of Sylvester, are charming visitors at Mrs. S. T, Wil¬ liams’, on Irwin avenue. Miss Vickey Braudnaux, of Co¬ lumbus, Ga., after spending two weeks with her sister, Mrs. A. W. Drew, returned to her home Satur¬ day. We regret to chronicle the death of Mv. John Mobley’s baby girl, aged three years, which occurred Monday last.. May the Master comfort the bereaved parents. Purvis, at the last mo- ment, decided to attend a business college in Columbus, Ga„ instead of Senoia, and left Sunday for that place. One of Billy Fletcher’s neighbors says he will make S5 bushels of corn per acre on the ten acres near his residence. We believe he will got forty. Rumors should not be given much (•credence at any time. During a po- litical year they should be allowed to go in at one ear and out at the other. Messrs, Coleman & Mixon have about completed their commodious gin house on West Fifth street, and will be ready for the fleecy when it comes in. Mr.Jas. *W. Huggins has taken Mr. W. D. Burke’s place as mail agent between Ocilla and Abbeville. Mr. Burke has been transferred to Hawkinsville. Miss Ola Paulk, daughter of Mr. Thomas I’aulk, of Coffee county, who has been visiting Miss Bertha Paulk since yearly meeting.returned home Monday. Judge J. B. Clements, ’Squire Marcus Luke and Mr. J. B. D.Paulk, of the county capital, were in Ocilla Tuesday, to the gratification ot their many friends here. The -turpentine still -df Taylor, Floyd & Co., three -miles south of Lax, in Coffee ooimty, was destroyed by fire on Friday of last week, .Less. $1,500. No insurance. Two of Mr. Dan Griffin’s Children were reported dangerously ill the first of the week. Mr. Griffin lives a ’few miles from Mt. Par on. We hope the little ones are bettor ere this.
