Alabama will probably change
her August election to November,
so as to avoid the double excite¬
ment, trouble and expense of hold¬
ing two separate elections in the
same year. The leading papers of
the State ad vocato the change, and
13uitedStates Senator Morgan, Con¬
gressman elect Oates and other
leading men have addressed the
General Assembly on the subject,
urging tho desirableness of the
change. It would be well if all the
States that now hold October elec¬
tions would make tho proposed
change to November.
Under the provisions of tho pro¬
posed new bankrupt law to be
brought before Congress there can
be no doubt that the honest debtor
will obtain his discharge more
readily and at less expense than
under the old. Tho right of credi¬
tors to have a debtor made bank¬
rupt is substantially like that under
the law of 1867- To meet a kind
of fraud and opposition which is
but too common, it is made a crime
in a creditor to take payment for
any act of forbearance in the course
of the proceedings, or more than
his share of a composition.
A Charitable Act.
Several months ago a boy about
twelve years of age, by the name of
G. W. Houston, reached here from
North Carolina, with the purpose
of going to Arkansas on foot, if he
could not go otherwise. His
father and mother were dead. His
uncle died a few weeks before,
leaving the boy all alone. A man
in Arkansas had offered him a
home if he would come out With
a strong wilt he start d out to go.
Mr. W. J. Houston, believing
there fa him worthy
of developing, secured tickets for
him, and wrote a letter of comtnen
dation for him. Yesterday Mr.
TI Houston received . , , letter from ** the ,

One Hundred Hwlss Emierants
for Georgia.
Zurich, Switzeri.and. Nov. 19.—
Atlanta Conttitulion : I will leave
Havre on Saturday, December 4th,
with one hundred emigrants for
the Piedmont belt.
C. A. Bkidermann.
No-17 Schuzenstrausse.
This is encouraging. It will be
recollected that on the 22d of July
last, Mr. C. A. Beldermnnn and wife
Bailed for Switzerland as the immi¬
gration agents of the Atlanta and
Charlotte Air-Lino railway.
Mr. Beldermnnn, we learn from
private sources found immigration
agents from other portions of the
United States. They were using
every effort that ingenuity could
suggest to induce the hardy Swiss
to leave their country for the sec¬
tions represented by them. But
they seemed too anxious to secure
emigrants, and not being natives,
*he press and peoplesoon got “down
on them’’ and they gave up the
chase.
Mr. B., without ostentation, an¬
nounced L is presence as a farmer
from Georgia, who would give to
enquirers all the information lie
could as to this country. He print¬
ed in the German language a des¬
cription of the climate, etc., of the
of the Piedmont region. Settlers
poured in upon him, and his office
was besieged with enquirers.
Many wrote to him that if they had
not known him they would not
have given ciedit to the statements
made about Georgia and the Caro
linas.
The telegram above announces
his success. These immigrants will
come prepared to buy and develop
farms in northeast Georgia and add
to our productive prosperity. They
will bring in at least $50,000 to the
State. They will receive a cordial
welcome into the Georgia tswizer
bind.
Ahe Air-Line railroad has 300,000
ncres oflanil registered for sale and
will he able to furnish them with
homes at reasonable prices.
The immigrants will arrive about
the 23d or 24th of December next.
The ball is in motion. Let ’er roll.
