One hundred Swiss emigrants

a gentleman from western New

Georgia Statistics*
The following compilation of iri'
tcresting facts, derived from the
Report of Comptroller-General
Wright, we clip from an exchange
and publish for the information of
our readers:
During the fiscal year of 1880 $5,-
519,924.26 has been charged up
against the Treasurer, and lie has
paid out $4,833,683,79, leaving a
balance in the Treasury on October 1,
1880, of 686,240.47.
The consolidated nggregrate
property of Georgia for the year
3879 amounted to $225,093,419, and
for 1880 it amounted to 238,934,126
making an increase for 1880 of 13,-
840,707.
In 1870 the polls of whites num¬
bered 130,175, and in 1880 they
numbered 1114,328, rnakiug an in¬
crease of 4,148.
The polls of negroes in 1879 num¬
bered 88,622, and in 1880 94,092 an
increase of 5,577, which shows a
much larger iucreaae of colored than
whites.
Lawyers in the State in 1870
numbered 1,292 and in 1880, 1,283,
a decrease of 9, being the only
profeaaion in the State that has de¬
creased.
Doctors in the State in
numbered 1,638, and in
an increase of 11.
Dentists in the State in
numbered 175, in 1880 179, an
crease of 4.
The bonded indebtedness of
gia falling due in 1881 amounts
$872,415.
The aggregate cost of the General
Assembly ofGeorgiain 1879
ed to $121,506.75.
Richmond county has the
list of white poll tax payers in
Jtate—3,805.
Chatham lias the largest
list—4.030.
Chatham has the largest
gate of poll tax payers—7,150.
Charlton has the smallest

Fulton has the largest gang

Colquitt, Echols, Irwin and Wil¬

Charlton, Chattahoochee and Ir¬
win have not a single doctor.

est rate of county tax—15cts on

From the above it is seen that
all of Georgia’s interests are in a
flourishing condition. The popu¬
lation and wealth of the State have
greatly increassed during the past
year: tuid, notwithstandingGarfield
hag been elected President of the
United States, Georgia expects to
continue building up her material
interests, and in a few years hopes
to gain the wealth and prosperity
she enjoyed before the bitter struggle
between the fitates, when her pro¬
perty was swept away and her citi¬
zens left almost destitute of means
of support.
Cheap Hoarders,
The Wintorvillo correspondent
of Oglethorpe Echo , tells this cu¬
rious story about two families in
Banks county two families, Mr. T.
B. Bruce, with 5 children, and his
brother-in-law, Mr. James Wright,
with 6 children who, for the past
9 years, liavo abstained exclusively
from the uso of pork or bacon and
very nearly so from all animal food.
Occasionally they eat some of beef
or chicken, hut their principal diet
is and has been vegetables and
bread. A few green apples, bread
water constitute their break¬
fast, and they often have only two
this per day. They claim that
they can do more manual labor
than anyone on three meats of
baco n. They use no tobacco
or alcoholic drink and their clean
rosy complexion attest the fact of
their good health. No physician
has been colled in except an ac
coucher, nor has a dose of medicine
been given in five years. They
also claim that this vegetation diet
is more than one-third cheaper
than that previously observed by
them, that they commenced this
system for hygienic purposes, and
would, under no circumstances,
change
