JOHN U. MADDOX Editor
Every democrat ill the county
owes it both to himself and his
country to turn out and vote on
the is 1st Wednesday there is this in January. time
It true at no
nominees, open opposition but it to difficult the regular tell
is to
at what moment there may spring
up a stubborn and unexpected foe
that work lias been doing undrground by
for many days. We are
no means alarmed ove.i the result
of Wednesday’s people election provided
the turn out and vote, hut
as we have had more than one
intimation that there has been an
effort tion ticket made to feel produce an duty opposi¬
we it our to
make this public notification,
which will be ample enough for
every purpose. Our first impress
ion was to let the question of oil
position crystalize front, and come open¬ de¬
ly to the as it was our
cided belief it would; but as it has
not, we are forced to make the
statement that opposition to the
regular nominees is possible. plain
Therefore, it becomes the
duty of every democrat to turn
out on election day and vote. A
hearty vote is an honor to the
party and the an appropriate ■compli¬
ment to nominees.
Our farmers seem very much
impressed with the importance of
raising grain and meat in tho fu¬
ture. It is late but better late
than never. With corn in tlie
ertb and bacon in the smoke house
they need .have no fears.
A witty lady says; “If you want
to find out a man’s real disposi¬
tion, take him when lie is wet and
hungry. If he is amiable then,
dry him and fill him up, and you
have au angel.”
To My Friends and Patrons
Last June I was tendered the
coprincipalsliip of Oakland sem¬
inary with Prof. Murray, I accept¬
ed tho situation on the condition
that the house was to be repaired
sufficiently to accommodate com
fortally the school that would be
in attendance. Nothing, it would
seem, has been dono in that di¬
rection and as the time for opening
tho school for 1889 approaches, it
becomes me to decide upon wliat
I shall do. As tho time is too
short to make tho necessary re¬
pairs at Oakland for the beginning
of the school 1 have decided that
I will resume school at my acade¬
my on Mill streot, on Monday,
January 14tli and continue there
until the proper repairs have been
made oil buildings at Oakland.
I do this as a matter of justice to
to both myself and Prof. Murray.
There is not room or accommoda¬
tions at Oakland seminary at
present to properly instruct the
united schools. As it now is, I
have- comfortable room in my
building for eighty or ninety
scholars, and Prof. Murray has
room for, perhaps, more than that
number at Oakland. For this,
and this reason alone I have con¬
cluded to teach at my academy on
Mill street for the present at least,
and sincerely hope to receive a lib¬
eral per cent of the school patro¬
nage of tlie town.
With my standing pledge of
faithful and careful instruction
and tlie mamtainanco o! good dis¬
cipline.
Most respectfully yours,
It. A. Guinn.
