It. Editor
Statistics have been compiled to
show that only one doctor out of
every seven who graduate make
$2,000 a year. Only one lawyer
out of five makes that sum.
The Constitution has given it
out editorially that there are to be
four candidates for the next gov¬
ernorship. This of course is to be
considered as a sounder.
President Hopkins lias refused
to receive any more students at
the Technological school. The
room is not sufficient to accommo¬
date the number of applicants.
Senator Brown thinks that
whisky ought to be free, but that
bagging for cotton ought to be
taxed. That sort of ideas don’t
suit tho farmers.
Tho congressional question is
being discussed in some places in
this district. The Constitution s
slate figures it out that our pres¬
ent efficient congressman will
have opposition. And AVC
may add, Allauta wants to
her grip on things again.

Tho Farmers’ Alliance of Ran¬
dolph county met at Cuthbert
Wednesday. Among other mat¬
ters discussed was tho prevalent
mode of purchasing floating voters
in the different elections. The al¬
liance bound themselves solemnly
together in a pledge that they
would ferret out and report every
offensp of that nature whieli may
occur in their respective precincts
at all eoniing'clcelions.
Col. 11. 1>. Locke is represented
as saying that efforts Avill be
made to thoroughly organize the
Republican parly in Georgia.
To this end a daily newspaper
will be established i i Atlanta, uni
the different republican newspa¬
pers in tho state will bo improved.
It is hoped by the republicans
that enough protectionists wil
withdraw from the Democratic
party to enable republicanism to
gain the ascendency in the state.
Col. Locke a id his fellow-workers
should not become over-confident.
They should rather prepare them¬
selves for disappointment. There
are not very many protection dem¬
ocrats in G eorgia, and very few o
those who believe in protection
would vote to turn tho state over
to tho republicans.
Dr. Price, of Oconee county,
Ga., suffered for yerrs the pangs
of rheumatism, vainly trying all
remedies. Six years ago one of
his sons in Texas heard that a
hairless Mexican dog, if allowed
o sleep at tho feet of a sufferer
from rheumatism, was a sure cure.
He bought a dog and took it home
to his father. The old gentleman
laughed at the idea of such a cure
but to please his son tried ilie dog.
Tho account says that as soon as
the doctor lay down in bed the
dog “sprang in and coiled itself
around his feet. In loss than an
hour the dog gato Lim evident
relief, and in a short time effected
a cure. NY herever the pain struck
him he made the dog lie against
the place, and tho heat from the
animal's body drew it out like a
mustard plaster. Every night for
six years the doctor has slept with
his hairless bedfellow, who now
begins to show the effects of age,
and Dr. Price says that after its
death if the rheumatic pains re¬
turn he will at once send for
another Mexican dog.'’
