Mr. Walter Adair left Tuesday
for New York, where he goes to
buy his stock of fall and winter
goods. He went by way of
steamer from Savannah to New
York and will return by rail. He
will be gone about fifteen days
and will have some rare bar¬

turns.
Messrs Williams & Warren are
putting up a new forty-horse
power engine at their ginnery in
town. They have put in another
gin also and will add some other
new machinery before they are
done. This ginnery has a large
patronage and, with the improve¬
ments now being made, will get
a larger patronage this season
than ever.
REVIVAL SERVICES.
Rev. R. A. Bowman, pastor of
the Presbyterian church, announ¬
ced last Sunday that a special se¬
ries of meetings would begin at
that church on Thursday, August
19th, and continue for about two
weeks. The services will be con¬
ducted by Rev. F. R. Graves, pas¬
tor of the Fourth Presbyterian
church, of Atlanta.
A cordial welcome is extended
to all to attend the meetings.
SMYRNA CAMPMEETING.
The campmeeting at Smyrna
closed last Thursday evening and
the universal opinion of those who
attended was that it was one of
the most successful meetings ever
held there. The preaching was
clear and forcible, and was most¬
ly on the evangelistic line, in¬
stead of doctrinal.
Some twenty persons professed
conversion, and of this number
fifteen united with the Smyrna
church.
ICE CREAM FESTIVAL.
The Ladies’ Aid Society of the
Presbyterian church have arrang¬
ed to have an ice cream festival
at the residence of Mr. T. D.
O’Kelley on next Monday eve¬
ning, August 16th. Cream and
cake will be sold at a nominal
price.
Those attending will not only
have an enjoyable time, but will
also be aiding a worthy cause, as
the money realized is to go toward
improving the church building.
DEBILITY of

relief is indescribable. Debility in- or
nervous prostration causes all the
conveniences of pain, though not its
sharpness. It is a later stage of disease.

NOT OCT OF DANGER.
It would be well, no doubt, for
us to say just here that because
June and July have passed we are
not yet out of danger, so far as
health is concerned, and our peo¬
ple should take special pains to
keep their premises clean and free
from decaying fruits.
One of our prominent
cians said Tuesday that he had
more dread for the health of the
town people during the months of
August and September than any
other time in the year, and that
the people should be very careful
about how they keep their systems
and their premises as well.
Decaying vegetation, stagnant
water, and a great many other
things that would produce fever
in its most terrible form should
be prevented, and everything kept
decently and in order.
There is not a healthier town in
Georgia than Conyers, if precau¬
tion is taken to keep everything
nice and clean.
A SAD DEATH.
On the 6th day of August the
grim monster death visited the
home of Mrs. Sarah George, in
Lorraine district, and. bore away
her only daughter, Mollie, leav¬
ing the family circle broken.
The home and hearts that were
once brighted by her presence are
now saddened by her departure;
but it cheers our sorrowing hearts
to know that she has only changed
this cruel world for a place in the
green pastures of the Good Shep¬
herd.
She eyer had the care and pro¬
tection that only an affectionate
mother can give; but she now has
a home in a mansion above this
sinful world, protected by Him
who says, “Suffer little children
to come unto me, for of such is
the kingdom of God.”.
Let us all remember that we,
too, must die—lose our straight
and beauty, hid adieu to our
friends and companions and yield
our bodies to grim death, who is
coming to send our bodies to the
grave and our souls before God’s
tribunal to be sentenced to an
endless eternity.

WHAT CAMPAIGNING IS.
Tuesday’s Atlanta Constitution
contained the following:
“Colonel Livingston was up yes¬
terday. The colonel was talking
over some old campaigns and in
the course of the conversation re¬
marked that there is no campaign¬
ing like stumping. He did not
say so, but everybody who knows
him at all, knows that the con¬
gressman would rather make
stump speeches than eat. He
does not believe in the still hunt
plan. He likes to get his oppon¬
ent out on the stump with a big
crowd around the platform, the
women on benches down in front
and the barbecue smoking in the
pits down the hill. That is cam¬
paigning, he says.”
SOME CURIOUS THINGS.
A boy’s grandmother, in Atlan¬
ta, levied on his bicycle for board.
Cris Rooney, once a member of
the Augusta council, is now a
member of the chaingang in that
city, and uses a pick and shovel
as any other law-breaker.
Lightning disintered a body
from a grave at Fort Ogden, Fla.,
recently. The grave was opened
and the dirt thrown up some dis¬
tance around.
Twin babies, born May 80th,and
together weighing but two pounds
eleven ounces at birth, are at the
West Pennsylvania hospital,Pitts¬
burg. The babes were kept at
home for fourteen days and then
the mother and children were car
ried to the hospital, The babes
were unable to generate enough
heat to keep them alive, owing to
their small bodies, so they were
placed on a hollow rubber blanket
filled with hot water, and covered
with blankets, They were fed
every half hour from a medicine
dropper holding twenty drops,and
are now so far along as to give
ground for the belief that they
will live. They have each gained
one ounce since birth.
STANDS AT THE HEAD.
Aug J. Bogel, the leading drug¬
gist of Shreveport, La., says: ‘‘Dr,
King's New Discovery is the ODly
thing that cures my cough, and it
is the best seller I have." J. F.
Campbell, merchant of Safford,
Ariz wrties: “Dr. King's New Dis¬
covery is all that is claimed for it;
it never fails, and is a sure cure
for Consumption, Coughs and
Colds. I cannot say enough
for its merits." Dr. King's New
Discovery for Consumption,
Coughs and Colds is not an ex¬
periment. It has been tried for a
quarter of a century, and to-day
stands at the head. It never dis¬
appoints. Free trial bottles at
