Miss Nora Plunket's many
friends will be sorry to learn
that she is very sick from the
effects of a Snife wound. Some
eight weeks ago Miss Nora and
her brother, Floyd, were scuffling
at home and accidently stabbed
herself on the leg with a sharp
pointed case-knife. The wound
was veiy painful at first, but
soon got better aud was thought
to be doing nicely until several
lays ago when it became sud¬

been very sick. May she soon
be well.

appreciation of our family to the

WILL CHANGE HANDS.
We understand that Mrs. J. B.
Reese, proprietress of the Com¬
mercial Hotel, has sold out and
will give up hotel keeping.
Mrs. M. H. Morgan and her
mother, Mrs. Green, of Americus,
are the purchasers. The trade
has been made, but caunot be
confirmed until Mrs Morgan ar¬
rives. She is expected in a day
or so, when the trade will be
made final and the property will
go into new hands at once.
The Commercial Hotel is valua¬
ble property aud Mrs. Reese
would not sell were it not for the
fact that health has failed her.
Mrs. Reese has worked hard to
build up a good patronage for
the hotel aud she has succeeded.
Tne Commercial has a good re¬
putation among all the traveling
men, who are ever praising the
excellent management of it. Mrs.
Reese has not decided where she
will locate, but we are very sorry
to learn that she will not locate in
Conyers.

services Saturday afternAon at 8
o’clock at the Methodist church,
of which she was a member. The
interment was in Rockdale ceme¬
tery.
Last Friday morning .. about t
o’clock, after a long and painful
illness, death came to the relief of
Mr. Addison Riley, at his home
in this place. lie had suffered
greatly for several months . from
chest dropsy and his death had
been momentarily expected for
several days.
Mr. Riley was one of our oldest
and most highly respected citi¬
zens ; he was a true Christian man
and his walk in life was upright.
He was a member of the Baptist
church of this place and as such
he lived strictly up to the pre¬
scribed faith of his church. — — is
death will be keenly felt by all of
our people.
The. remains were laid to rest
in Eastview cemetery last Satur¬
day morning, after funeral ser¬
vices at 9:80 o’clock in the Bap¬
tist church conducted by Revs. B.
D. Ragsdale and H. J. Adams.
THE CALVINISTIC DOCTRINE
(communicated.)
Editor Banner: —I think it
very foolish for men and women
to engage in discussing the decrees
of the great “I am” in the spirit
of controversy we use in these lat¬
er days. God’s holy word, if worth
anything, is worth everything.
On it hinges the destiny of this
vast universe, and most of all the
eternal destiny of men and wo¬
men. God made men and women
for His own glory, not to enjoy
our fleshly lust.
I am often made sick by hear¬
ing men ignorant of the bible
canting on God’s laws and decrees
that does not agree with their fee¬
ble notions of creeds, Because
some man differs with them on
baptism, free grace, foreordina¬
tion, or some other doctrine, the
poor, frail man unchristianizes
them. In John 0: 04—65 we find
the apostle John wanting to do
the same thing.
Some ask if you believe in free
agency, why don’t you get relig¬
ion right now?—you act foolish
to put it off. Others say if you
believe in foreordination, what do
you try to do good works for? Sim¬
ply because God has told me to
do good unto all men, and it is
none of my business to ask why.
Some say if I believed the Calvin
istic doctrine, I would rob, steal,
kill, or do anything I wanted to
do. Such men no not of God.
They would kill, rob and steal if
they were not in fear of man’s
laws. To these people I want to
give a few quotations and refer
