Mr. Thos. W. Dimmock, Mis¬

of the American Sunday School
Union, made a most interesting
talk at Oak Grove last Sunday af¬

here for a long time, and has
many friends here who were glad
to meet him again.

Sheriff Austin arrested a “blind
tiger“ in town last Thursday
morning. Mr. Jim Martin, of
Lorraine district, came to town
early in the morning and his
movements seemed suspicious to
the sheriff and he was watched
very close until about ten o’clock
when the sheriff was satisfied that
he had some rich game and made
the arrest. A city case was made
out against Mr. Martin and a few
minutes later when he was
brought before Mayor Tucker he
plead guilty lo the charge and
was fined $30 and cost, or 25 days
in prison. Some relatives of the
young man secured his release
Friday morning. Mr. Martin is
only about 21 years of age and no
one but sheriff Austin would have
ever taken him to be in the “blind
tiger" business.
NEW OFFICERS ELECTED.
Rev. H. P. Meyers, D. I)., Su¬
perintendent of the American Bi¬
ble Society for Georgia, preached
at the Methodist church on last
Sunday morning and at the Pres¬
church at night.
At the services Sunday night
Dr. Meyers gave out some appall¬
ing facts in regard to the condi¬
tion of the society, which has for
sometime had a branch society in
this place, which ought to be suf¬
ficient to revive the old society in
Conyers and put it in even better
shape than ever.
At the rate the American Bible
Society has been going for the
past two years, according to Dr.
Meyers’ statement, it will not be
long before the society, which has
done so much for the poor people,
both at home and abroad, will be
a thing of the past, and the good
people cannot afford to let this

With the newly elected officers
it is expected that the society at
this place will be revived and
soon doing good as it once did.
The new officers elected Sunday
night are as follows:
John R. Maddox, president; A.
M. McElvany, secretary; John H.
Almand, treasurer. The advisory
board consists of the following
gentlemen: T. D. O’Kelley, W.

A VACATION WELL SPENT.
We get the following from the
Christian Observer, which tells of
the good work of Mr. J. A. Clot
felter at, one of the five churches
he served, during his vacation, in
Alabama:
“For nearly six years the doors
of the Harpersville (Ala.) Pres¬
byterian church have been closed.
In May of this year, however, Mr.
J. A. Clotfelter of Columbia Theo¬
logical Seminary began work with
this church, spending his vacation
in hard work in this and several
other churches of North Alabama
Presbytery. He was assisted in a
meeting of six days recently, by
Rev. W. I. Sinnott. The church
was greatly revived. Two elders
and one deacon were ordained;
fourteen members were added to
the church,, and seven infants
were baptized. It was a wonder¬
ful awakening out of sleep upon
the part of this church, similar to
a resurrection from the dead.”
THE ASSOCIATION.
The Yellow River Primitive
Baptist Association met with the
Primitive Baptist church in this
place last Friday morning and
continued through Sunday. Fri¬
day and Saturday was taken up
in attending to the business of the
association. Several sermons
were delivered each day and those
who took no part in the business
meeting were thus entertained.
There were about thirty minis¬
ters present and quite a number
of messengers from the different
churches in the association, and
visitors were here in great num¬
bers from all over the country
from the first day.
Sunday was the big day. It
was just such a day that makes
big gathering unpleasant and dis¬
agreeable—hot, dry and dusty—
but the people were here all the
same. It was the largest gather¬
ing Conyers has had in many
years. The people came from a
great distance and by ten o'clock
the grounds areund the church
and the old Seminary, which are
very large, were filled with horses
and buggies and those who came
late were compelled to tie their
stock some distance from the
grounds.
The services Sunday morning
were conducted by Elders Hitch¬
cock and Eubanks, and the din¬
ner that followed was sumptuous
and plentiful. Elders McElroy
and Bagwell preached the closing
sermons in the afternoon.
Ali the visitors were comforta¬
bly entertained and all enjoyed

SOMETHING TO KNOW.
It may be worth something to
know that the very best medicine
for restoring the tired out ner¬
vous system to a healthy vigor is
Electric Bitters. This medicine
is purely vegetable, acts by giv¬
ing tone to the nerve centres in
stomach, gently stimulates the
liver and kidneys, and aids these
organs in throwing off impurities
in the blood. Electric Bitters
improves the appetite, aids di¬
gestion, and is pronounced by
those who have tried it as the
very best purifier and nerve tonic.
Try it. Sold for 50o and $1.00
per bottle at Dr. W. H. Lee's
drug store.
$4.80 FROM CONYERS.
Mr. John II. Averill, Commis¬
sioner of the Georgia railroad,
writes us as follows:
Editor Banner: —The Georgia
railroad will, on Oct. 7th, give
the people of Rockdale and other
counties on the line, a special op¬
portunity of visiting the Exposi¬
tion, and at a rate within the
reach of all. From Conyers lo
Nashville and return, it will be
$4.80. Now this excursion is sure¬
ly one that should be patronized.
The rate is low and the attractions
here are great. There are many
things that should be seen by
them—things that would be of in¬
terest and importance to them,
and that when this Exposition
closes they may not have an op¬
portunity of seeing in years.
In the Agricultural, the Miner¬
al and Forresty, and Georgia rail¬
road exhibit, are to be seen the
resources of the South, of Georgia,
of your section, shown out in a
manner never before undertaken
in any previous exhibit, and in
the Georgia railroad exhibit the
advantages of your section, as a
home to the home-seeker, are well
set out.
On Oct. 8th and 9th hundreds
of Western people are coming to
Exposition—coming from Nebras¬
ka, Illinois and other states. Hon.
W. J. Bryan will be here and de¬
liver an address.
We want the people of Rockdale
county and the line of the road to
come on this excursion—to come
prepared to meet with the West¬
erners, to talk up the advantages
of our section and to help us, in
the work we have started here,
and in that way they will greatly
help their own county.
Recognizing the fact that all
parties of this kind need a leader,
Hon. H. T. Lewis, of Greene
county, has been invited and con¬
sented to do our talking on the
occassion, and we feel satisfied
that the cause of our section of
Georgia could not be in better
hands.
