OUR FIRST MISSIONARY.
A notable event in the annals
of February, 1900, was the visit of
Miss Layoim Glenn, the first, grad¬
uate of the Scarritt Bible and
Training School, who, after five
years’ service as a missionary of
the Woman’s Hoard of Foreign
Missions in Brazil, lias returned
for a year’s rest. For weeks we
hud been anticipating her visit, to
her Alma Muter, and the day of
her r turn was a delightful ooca
sum. The years had not left heavy,
impress on her, and t he fitted into
the household ns is she had left
only yesterday. Her four weeks’
visit was a series of ovations from
her admiring associates, Her
talks to the students in their
prayer iiieetings, missionary meet¬
ings. and in social life wore help¬
ful and stimulating, mentally and
spirituallv. Me had expected
her to remain with us two or
mont hs, and the shortness of nor
stay was the only hindrance to, our
per fee t enjoyment.—M is* ioi > a r y

DECEMBER 25TH WILL FIND A COTTON
MILL IN FULL OPERATION
IN’ CONYERS
Conyers is going to have a Cot
con factory.. Phis is no blow but
a plain truth.
At a special meeting of the
City Council on last 1 harsday
evening, it was decided that in oi
( k*r keep pace with other nuir
kets. o ir town must have a Cotton
Mill, and steps must lie imme¬
diately taken to accomplish the
movement. Therefore it was
agreed bv the City Council to ex
empt from taxation any enterprise
of this kind for a period of twenty
yf»ars. .' ' This is a matter which the
.
, city should nave done sometime
j a „ ° 0 ’ and is " nieetin ,r n with hearty
j approval with . . our citizens. . .
j with Mayor lurnei,
i In speaking
who is a hustler from the word go,
and one who will push the matter!
through to success, stated had been that al-J
ready about $15,000
soribed and before the week endsj
he expects to have at. least $20,
000 .
This is very encouraging and so
soon as our farmers have been en
fortned of the action and become
'enlightened on the subject, they
will also subscribe liberally.
Our people realize the necessity
of manufacturing industries and
are determined to have a Cotton
factory at once.
We are truly glad to see this
movement. A Cotton factory is
the thing our town and county
needs; it is the thing to make,
your property more valuable. Sol
subscribe liberally and lets have
the mill right now.
