The nominees of our county are
all good men and wii make very
efficient officers. They were select¬
ed after a thorough canvass of the
county by the severel candidates.
They have been declared the
nominees of the Democratic paity
and entitled to the votes of every
man who voted in the late primary.
Our people cannot and will not
court disorganization. The nomi¬
nees are all capable and trust
worthy gentlemen and the interest
of the people will not suffer in
heir hands.
Civilization or not, I believe our
missionaries would do good work
if they came back and made a tour
of substitution of the Chinese
drunk for our old American jag.
They'd save many American wo¬

hunger if they did. And come
near stopping our courts too.

i in OPEN LETTER
Atlanta, Ga., July 5th 1900.
Mr. Frank M. Magill, General Machine Agent, Co.,
McCormick Harvesting
Atlanta, Ga.
Dear Sir:— Desiring to purchase a Mower for the use in
Grant Park, the Commissioners and myself took the mat¬
ter up for consideration and began an investigation of ma¬
chines, From all appearances the McCormick seemed to
he the best mower in construction, bnfc being assured by
the Deering agent that their Mower was “just as good as
the McCormick," we decided to purchase their machine.
After trying the Deering Mower, however, we found it un¬
satisfactory for use in tlie Park, where a Mower is put to a
very severe test in tine grass and we then eoncludtd to try
the McCormick. We have tested it whe v e the Deering
‘tiled, and were well j>] rased,-so ranch so that we have de
! o purchase the Met' >rmick and return the Deering. The
McCormick Mower has sufficient weigut to give it f “grip
n the earthand tin- manner in which 'ir, '.vent through
he heavy and matted Bermuda grass of several growths
/as enough to win the admiration of every one who saw it
•.it. The diiffirence Y. the swaths of the machines could be
asily recognized, the McCormick having cut smooth and
v lean, while the Deering lelt a ragged, half cut uneven
swath. So poorly was the work done by tlm Deering that
it was necessary to recut with the McCormick where it had
gone. In using the McCormick, which is a Vertical-Lift
Mower, wo are able to cut am mg the shru : bory and trees
to our entire satisfaction, as the cutter bar • an be raised by
i ho driver from the seat to an upffigbt position, so as to pass
the trees without stopping the team.....-a thing impossible
with the deering. The McCormick also run : lighter and
smoother and with less noise
For the past twenty -live years 1 have been connected
with the management of Park grounds, and my experience
in using machines has convinced me that the McCormick
is the n’v Mower that will do good work under any and all
circumstances.
Yours wry truly.

CHINESE PELARISY.
Bret Harte, in his famous poem
t; The Heathen Chines--,” says:
For ways that arc dark
And for tricks that are vain.
The heathen Chinese is peculiar,
Which the same is free to maintain.
And Mr. Harte is right, says the
Waycross Herald. They first in
vented gunpowder, and making of
paper, and used block type in print
ing, but have never improved on
them. When they meet a friend
they shake their own hands. Wo
Ida k our shoes, they chalk theirs;
wo shave our face they their heads;
we look up to our Diety, they look
down ; we pay our doctor when we
are sick, they pay Him as long as
they are well; (a commendable
idea,) wo begin our meal with the
plainest of food, they begin with
sweets; we write across a sheet of
paper, they up and down. We are
to them for the plow.
They teach their children cour¬
tesy above all things, auotuer com¬
mendable idea. They ivented fire¬
works, we invented “fire water.”
They r have no settled religions
belief, but pay their debts. They
believe firmly in the “fung shway”
or the eternal balance of things—
if a window on cue side of the
house is open a corresponir.g one
on the other side is opened. Truly
they are peculiar. There are no
laundries in China and they learn
the art in this country. -
The Epworth nague service:, e,
the Methodist church are
a great benefit to every member as
as well as the general public.
Each Leaguer should attend these
services, as the good they will ao
rivs therefroin will be of great
benefit to them,
