Brittain of Coving¬ ton by the authorities of the Mid¬ dle'Georgia/ College at Jonesboro during the commencement exercis¬ es week before last. The confer¬ ring of the degree of ‘‘Doctor of Di¬ vinity” upon Mr. Brittain is a title of honor most worthily and proper¬ ly bestowed, and no mail is more eminently qualified or deservedly entitled to it than he. Over a million men will vote this year who were not old enough to exercise the right of suffrage four years ago. Hawthorne will deliver tlie annual sermon before the mis¬ sionary society of Mercer universi¬ ty, at Macon, on the evening of June 24. Tlie Wall street speculators are discussing the question of whether or not Mr. Gould will get to heaven, the subject being suggested by G-suld’s recent illness.
