Before our State can realize last¬
ing prosperity, the young men who
grow up will have to learn the ad
vantage there is staying on the farm.
They rack off “to town,” into vice
and ruin, whereas, if they would
stick at home, peace, plenty and
prosperity would ere long crown in
dustrions efforts. Young man, stay
on the farm if you desire to be hap
py and innocent.—Walker County
Messenger.
At Douglasville 'Tuesday night
a large crowd of citizens, represent
ing every trade, profession and
calling, met at ‘he court house to
discuss the well faro of the town and
devise means < f improvement and
encouragement to induce strangers
to locate there. Appropriate draft com
mittees were appointed to leg¬ a
bill to be introduced in the next
islature to charter a bank, to take
steps to build a warehouse, and
to form a company to erect a sixty
room hotel.
It was specially in-advised for the
highest tribunal of the Knights ot
Labor to make a formal plea for
mercy to the lawless, cowardly and
murderous anarchists. It will bo
plausibly construed as declaring
a bead of syampatlvy between labor
and vagabondism; between the law
abiding workingman and the law
less idler, between the sovereign
citizen of home and country and
the alien destroyer of industry and
government.
A society of young ladies is
organized in the town of Grecns
borougli, Ala., the principal scandal object and
of which is to suppress
backbiting. Every member that
speaks evil of anv one is lined, and
it is said quite a snug little sum is
likely to be accumulated It would
be a good idea for such societies to
be organized everywhere, and not be
confined to young ladies either, for
it is believed that the young men
Are mnch more given to the vice ot
talking evil of others than young la¬
dies are.
Several weeks since, Mrs. R. A.
Guerrv. of Americus, dreamed that
her husband, who has been dead for
several years, appeared to her and
said: “Rhoda,I have not come for
you now; but in four weeks from
tonight I will come foi \ou.” She
told this to her family next morning,
and some of them put- it down. Ex
actly four weeks later Mrs. Guerry
was taken down sick, and has not
been able to sit up since. Her phy¬
sician and friends say that there is
very little hope of her e'er getting
well. She is a sister of Rev. P. S
Twitty, presiding older of the Amer
icus district.
A well has been discovered on the
premises of the Rev. 51r. Hillmao.
of Taliaferro county, the waters of
which arc possessed of wonderful
curative properties and highly med
icinal. One or two persons who had
been troubled with chronic rheuina
tism, after remaining in the wa
ter two hours, came out perfectly
healed. One of them, a negro, had
been unable to use his arm for years
and after a trial of the virtues of the
water lias regained the complete use
of that member. Mr. Hillman was
affected with sore eyes, and was
healed by the water.
The decline in prices will more
than likely stimulate the demand
for Jersey cattle. People of even
moderate means can afford to own
Jersey cows at from *100 to $150
each, and a pretty good cow can be
had for the latter sum. A good
cow ought to be worth as much as
* good horse, and certainly an av
erageof$125 ought not to be con
sidered a fancy price for a good
cow, such one as will, with fair treat
ment and management, feed and al
most clothe an ordinary family
from the sales of her milk and the
butter made from it. It cannot l>e
doubted that those extra cows that
sell for from $300 to $500 are worth
the money,
JUDGE STEWART IK H’DONOUGK
The Henry County Weekly in
reporting Judge Stewart’s speech
in McDonough last Wednesday

The people of Henry cannot forget

REV. 00£ CHRISTIAN’S WORK
The Sacramento (Cal.) Daily
Record-Union in speaking of Rev.
Coe Christian's work in that place
uses the following very complimen
tnry language; C. Chris¬
“Three years ago Rev. II,
tian was called to the pastorate of
the Sevenlhstreet M. E. Church
South. He came here from Barnes
ville, Bike county, Georgia. He is
tin earnest Christian gentleman, one
whose soul is in his work, and dur¬
ing the time he has been here has
succeeded in gaining nearly one hun¬
dred accessions to his church, and
secured a large congregation . from
among the best and most substan¬
tial citizens of the community. lie
says he never served a people or a
community he loved so well, and
where his efforts were crowned with
so much success. Some time since,
before the advent of the present
pastor, there was a disposition on
the part of members of the con¬
gregation to believe that the South
ern Church did not have place here.
Such a feeling does no longer exist.
Sectionalism, if it ever did exist
here, is a thing of the past, and all
feel now that they are laboring sole
ly in the cause of Christ, and in this
work are co-operating with all
Christian churches. Mr. Christian
is an earnest worker—in some re
speets an evangelist—and as a re¬
vivalist lie has no superior. Last
night lie pleached the last sermon
of his third year. On next Sabbath
moruimr and evening his pulpit
will be tilled by Bishop Keener, of
New Orleans.
The Conference of the M. E.
Church South will be held at San
Jnse, commencing on Wednesday,
Oct. 13th. According to the rules
of the Church, a minister can re
main in charge of the same church
four years, and it is altogether
likely that he will be returned to
Sacramento in deference to his own
wishes and that of the citizens of
tli is community.”
The Wliite House correspondent
to the Henry County Weekly says:
“We took a trip to Conyers a few
days ago and found crops good in
that section. The merchants said
trade was never better in their lit
tie city.”
“Now, my dear,’ he said, as lie
prepared to leave home after feverish sup¬
per, "the market has been
all day.” “I see.” “If wheat
should go up a center two this even¬
ing I might not be at home until
late.” “And in case wheat goes
down don’t exj ect me before mid
night.’’ “I see. Well, dear, you
