the bride’s father, Mr. R. F.
Farmer, in Sheffield district,
Rev. Mr. McConnell officiating.
The ceremony was performed
in happy style in the presence
of many of the friends of the
contracting parties.
A spleneid supper occasion was which pre
paaeb for the

2 Iff SMS IN JAIL.
Last Saturday night Marshal
Austin captured West Garret
and Haralson Hunter, who it
appears from the evidence
were running a regular travel¬
ing barroom. Garret had his
whiskey and a regular bar
glass and was measuring it
out at ten cents a drink. Mon¬
day morning the two darkies
were tried before Mayor Mad¬
dox and bound over to the su¬
perior court. The bonds were
placed at fifty and one hundred
dollars. Neither could give bond
so they now languish behind
the bars to await the action of
the superior court at its Septem¬
ber term. Marshal Austin
makes it warm for the violaters
of the law. In Georgia there
is not a more honest, fathf ul and
vigilant officer.
FRUIT FESTIVAL.
Next Ssturday evening at 3
o’clock there will be an alliance
rally of the Conyers affiance at

ara exdected to be on hand and

fruit. Every allianceman in
the county is invited to come
out to the rally. Come and
bring your family. There will
be some speaking and a gener¬
al reunion of the members.
Dr. R. A. Jones and family of
Mouticello are visiting in the city.
Mr. George Langford of Atlanta
was in the city Sunday.
Mr. H. F. Treadwell remembered
the editor this week with a nice
McGuire watermelon. Thanks.
Melons at two cents apiece is cer¬
tainly cheap, but if you haven’t got
the two cents it is all the same if
they were going for a quarter.
The alliance is moving on. Noth¬
ing can stop the cyclone raised by
the people.
Mr. Tom Shipley of Atlanta is
visiting m the city.
It will take a long time for the
people of tbe South to find out what
is the matter with the country.
You cant convince them that the
trouble is in sending away from
home for everthing wa need. It
takes all the money out of the coun¬
try and keeps a strained money
market all the time.
Mr. Lon Sherman and lady oi
New York city are visiting his
brother Mr. Mike Sherman in the
city.
Mrs. Ed Langford of Atlanta is
visiting in the city this week.

ALMAND & LANGFORD-
Tbe Kan If f*
Chattanooga, July81.—It is not true
that the banking firm of F. K. Pember¬
ton & Co. of this city, has failed or are
embarrassed, as has been reported in a
telegram sent over the country, and es¬
pecially to Philadelphia where the bank¬
ing firm has large connections. The
members of the banking firm are largely
interested in the Kensington Land com-,
pany, which seems involved in some
financial trouble, and the stories in cir¬
culation affecting the banking firm have
arisen from this cause. A circular has
been issued to all depositors and patrons
of the banking firm of F. H. Pemberton
& Co., requesting them to call or .send
to tbe bank if they desire a full settle¬
ment.
An aimless life inevitable drifts into
the channels of worthlessness, devel¬
oping, as it floats, a dwarfihg process,
and finally ends in annihilating every
impulse of noble aspirations.
NOTICE TO GINNERS.
I have a 40 saw gin for sale.
