Trust the women to find the meanest man. The woman’s Tribune speaks of him as fol ows: “ i he meanest man in the world is at last locatod, al¬ though unfortunately the dis¬ patches do not hold up his name to dxecration. He lives in Penobscot county, ’Me. He procured a divorce from his in¬ sane wife, married again, and when his first wife was disebar ed cured, but helpless, he refus¬ ed to support her and allowed her to become a town charge althoug he is worth $30,000. How many little inisunder standins stick like a splinter, in one’s finger, until they make mischief and troule that cannot easily be [remedied. And how' many cases five minutes frank, hoDest talk would have settled the whole matter. The policy of silence at such times is very dangerous policy, and many hearts have bled and suffered when a word would havo healed them. John Mauley, who has served twenty years of a life sentence, on “a charge of poisoning his wife in west Virginia, fit turns out is an innocent man. Two of his servants poisoned his wife with arsenic, and charged their master with the crime. THE DA TES FIXE E t Atlanta, Ga., March 2.—To the Democrats of Georgia: In pursuance oi Hie instructions this given me by the state dem¬ ocratic executive committee, two state democratic eonven toitbs are hereby called to con¬ vene in the city of Atlanta, one at 12 o’clock Wednesday, May 18th, and the other at 12 o’clock Wednesday, August 10th, Each county is entitled to twice as many votes in each of the state conventions as it has members in the lower house of the general assembly. The first convention is called to select delegates to the nation¬ al d miocratic convention, which convenes iu Chicago on June 21st; the second convention is to nominate democratic candidates f »r governor, statehouse officers d presidential electors, and to e ect a new executive commit¬ tee for the state. The method of selecting dele¬ gates from the various bounties is left in the control of the coun¬ ty executive committees; but the state committee suggests that the selection of delegates, and all nominations by the ty, be by primary elections the respective counties. Each county is urged to perfect its local [party organization, the party may be thoroughly organized throughout the a id prepared to meet and over¬ come all opposition. W. Y. Atkinson, Ohairm’n State Dem. Ex. Com. H. H. Cabaniss, Sec’v. the democratic convention to elect delegates from Georgia to th > national democratic conven¬ tion vill ho held in Atlanta Wed¬ nesday, May 18th. ■ fi ( ' democratic convention to nominate candidates for the st te election will be held in At¬ lanta August 10th. Both conventions are to he held iu the hall of the house of representatives, and will be called to meet at 12 o’clock on the days already named. He drew a vivid picture of the fi¬ nancial condition of the country and of tho laboring people and the pro¬ ducers, and said relief could not pos¬ sibly come by division and by split¬ ting up. A call had been issued for a congrgation of the producers of the country to meet in convention at St. Louis. He went there to meet this congregation, but instead he found there all kinds of organizations in ex. istence, or that could be osganized, and found tnem there for the purpose of [over-riding Southern sentiment, and they did it. lie paid a hansome tribute to Rich¬ ards, president of the Georgia Col¬ ored Alianee, and said that when Richards would not follow Post they took his votes from him and turned them over to be cast by a lately im¬ ported Englishman and deserter from the British Army. Referring again to the Third party croud at St. Louis, he said it was the most confused and confoundedly con¬ fused crowd he ever saw; calling on Bealer [of the Ailanta Journal, who was present and who was alo at St. Louis, to state if he misrepresented them, Bealer said no, they were simply kn aggregation of cranks. Can you follow a multitude like that, or a man who will ponder to the passion of a croud like that? Every iking was cut and dried to out age justice, decency and fair dealiug Will you cling together as Alliance men, or will you follow the strange banner floated by this croud? Are you to turn your back on your friends at the bidding of som stranger following? He wa3 op¬ posed to the Alliance going into any party. The order is non-partisiau. You can’t go in any party without loosing large numbers of your mem¬ bers, and it wouid be unpoltic and unwise te do so, there would be no success for the Alliance in doing so. Don’t fight as an organization in any party, stick together and vote your principals and you will win, to go into any party will kill your or¬ der. Democrats don’t care how much of a third party gets up, Re^ pnblicana fear a thid party. The ihird party stronghold is in the Northwest, a section from which the Democratic party hopes for nothing. Do you aak me to join a party that can’t win, if so you take me for a l’ooi? I don't, join such parties. If you don’t vote for our principals, we’ll vote for the other fellow and win ev¬ ery time. He would give up every¬ thing to fight the man who would ob¬ literate the color line, for the content for the negro vote must be fruitful of bitterness strife, disgraceful scenes and all else that would shock decency. The Democratic party is the peo¬ ple, and when the Alianee can’t do better ini he Democratic party than any other party, I’ll tell you to get out of it. Don't swap horses while crosssing the stre am . Col. Zachry, of Henry, was called on and declined to speak, but advised Aliancemen te let well enough alone. The followiug was offered by Hon. Henry L. Graves, and adopted uuani mously amid great enthusiasm. ■‘What ever may have been the doubt in the minds of some as to the position of Hon. L. F. Livingston, it can no longer be denied ihat he is not only on the Oea>a platform with both feet, but he is with both feet iu the De mod ratio party; therefore, be it ‘Resolved, That we, the Democrat c and Alliance citizens of Newton county, most heartily indorse his po¬ sition as to the formation of a third party at this time..’’—Enterprise. i-V ATLANTA, GA - - 24th YEAR.
