24; CONYERS, 7.
Last Saturday afternoon an inter,
esting game of base ball was played
by the Lifchonia and Conyers clubs, in
Conyers. the Lithonia boy
Notwithstanding they s
had never all played together,
won an easy victory, defeating Con
by a score of 24 to 7.
Large crowd witnessed the game—
many ladies were present—and it was
verry mortifying to them to see the
Queen City’s favorites receive such a
drubbing at the “great hitters.”
The small boys—and some large
too— splii their mouths back to their
ears in yelling and hissing at lithonia
but onr boys “smiled, said nothing
and played ball ”
The game opened with Dummy
Jones of Lithonia, at the bat’ and he
lead off with a safe hit, followed by
“Big” Kelley and Richie, and they
each crossed the plat—making three
runs.
Conyers orossed the home plate
twice her first inning and the crowd
went wild.
Both teams played a good field
name—some brilliant plays being
made on both sides—but the Con¬
yers ‘ sluggers” could not find alwells
curves.
These teams will play another
game heie next Saturday and Con
yers will do her best to win. Let
every body witness the game.
The following were the positions of
both teams:

A MUSICAL TREAT.
The concert at Hollingsworth Hall
Friday evening last, was enthusiasm
tieally enjoyed by the large number
present.
It was given for the benefit of our
Cornet Band and quite a neat little
sum was raised which will be used in
buying instruments.
It is impossible for us to do justice
to those who took part in the enters
tainmeut but will say each song was
loudly applauded and several were in
cored.
The most humorest song of the
evening was the one by Mr Lindsey’s
who is a singer of much note.
The duet, Cathrina. by Col- Helms
and Miss Sudie white, of Conyers,
was also equally as humorous as Mr.
Lindsey’s song and it brought down
down the house.
Mrs Beatty captured the audience
in her “Gipsey song” was was sung.
Mrs. Scrogie, Mrs Moir and the
Mess. Finllayson are splendid sing¬
ers and their quartets were splendid.
The songs of Mess Prat and Hugh
Owens and Mrs Scroggy were each
well received by the Audience.
Mr. Wm. McCIement and hisparty,
several Welchmen, appeared in sever¬
al songs, duets, etc,
We have never herd better singing
and the Audience could have listened
to it all night and never wearied.
The last piece on the program was
a quartette, “A Family Row,” by Col.
Helms, Mr. Guffln, Mrs.Beattie and
Miss While. It was splendid and
being encord, they respondeed by an
humorous song.
The members of tho band feel un¬
der lasting obligations to Col. Helms
Mr. Guffln, Mrs. Beattie and the
Misses White for their valuable as*
sis lance in making the entertainment
a perfect success, and hope to have
them with us again —Lithonia Era.
Mrs Ed Langford, of J Atlanta, is
here on a visit to her sister, Mrs. E.

If there is a man in Atlanta who
ranks higher for honesty, politeness
and fair dealings, than that gallant
old soldier, Mike Haverty, we have
failed to meet him. He carries one
of the largest and best stocks of fur¬
niture of every kind to be found in
the South, and he a is selling it at low
figures. And then when you buy
anything from M. Haverty, you know
you are buying good goods, and more:
You know you will get what you buy.
We believe we do our people a favor
to advise them to call afc this house
when in Atlanta and wanting furni¬
ture.

BON 1 !FAIL TO GO OUT.
There will be preaching at the
Methodist church to morrow by Rev.
W. H. Budd. Mr. Budd is a stu
dent at Oxford. He is preparing
himself for work in foreign fields.
Those who heard his talk at the Pres¬
byterian church during the “ Week
of Pra er, ” remember him with
pleasure. He is a forcible speaker,
full of zeal and fire. His congrega¬
tion has a treat in store for Sunday at
11 o'clock. M. H. Dillakj).
HYMENEAL.
On Wednesday afternoon last, Mr.
Willie S. Marks and Miss Dora C.
Carter were united in the holy bonds
of matrimony by Rev. Billie Almand.
The attendants were Mr. M. H. Coop¬
er and Miss Viola Moore, Mr. Lee
Bradford and Miss Mattie Markes.
After the ceremony was pei formed,
they immediately left for the home of
the groom’s father, Mr. Joel Markes,
where a most luxurant supper await¬
ed the gleeful party. After eating
supper, they left for their future home
in Sheffield district, escorted by
large concourse of friends.
Mr. Markes is one of the very best
farmers in the county, and has all the
noble traits and qualifications that
are attributable to a noble
and it is safe to say that he has taken
from our midst one of the most beau¬
tiful and sweet natured young ladies
ever reared up in our beautiful
city. We wish for them a long, hap¬
py and prosperous life.

by an aged Primitive Baptist
er, that there is a man, in the
part of Delta!b county, who

is reported that a man proceeded
reap the reward and has already tak¬

now exploring this county. He
he has found 4 in this county,
were it not for the consideration
the little word true he would return
and receive his reward, but alas,

brethern that the said 4 were

in fact, perfectly rotton. He
greatly disappointed and turned
in a perfect state of dismay. He
one of the f*.ur, a hoary headed

Party about 25 years ago- This,
