The Message.
Cleveland has sent in bis “ ye’low
n essage. It is a good message ft.
the north and east, but it is a poor
message for the west and south
He wants all the gold coined free
and made the money standard; be
wants sdyer coined in limited
amounts—made a subsidary money.
The administration forced silver down
by not paving it out for coin notes
instead of gold as the Secretary had
a right to do—the cry that it would
destroy the parity was all bosh—the
policy of paying out all gold detroy
ed the parity and forced silver down
lower than was ever known. Cleve¬
land sees the questio* osly from the
standpoint of the bankers and bond
holders and bis ideas are sot ours—
Soither are bis ideas is keeping with
the democratic platform.
Two Atlanta newspaper men

phones the other day and burn¬

SLOT ED WITH A WHITE GIRL,
St, Louis, Mo., August 5—a dispatch
ftom lit. Charles Mo., dated l o’clook,
a. ra,, says t
The sheriff has just sworn in twenty*
five deputies to assist in protecting the
negro, John Diekman, who, a few days
ago, eloped with a white girl and was
captured In 8:. LouU and afterward
brought here.
The streets are filled with people and
the negro will probably be lynobed be¬
fore morning.
These dear people should not
mistreat the poor negro who
has been so fortunate as to win
white bride. The “ coon ” has
a
been taught from his bible and
his school books that he is the
equal, if not the superior, of his
white friends who have exerted
themselves so diligently in his
behalf, to elevate his race and
when be is educated they should
not object. There are a great
many white women in cultured
Massachusetts who have done
a great deal of missionary work
among the poor negroes of the
Bouth, who are by this time en*
titled to reap a negro husband
as a reward for their sealous
labor. Perhaps old Slater has
left some daughters who could
make good wives for negroes.
Their father sowed so liberally
to produce a good crop of ne¬
groes that would be educatec
to humiliate southern white
people, that his labors should
not go without reward.
Old Cable advocated the idea
of miscegnation to obliterate
the color line. The South is
now ready to furnish the educa¬
ted negroes who will give the
daughters of the North all the
negro experience they will ever
need. And the fair daughters
of the North should only be too
glad “ to embrace ” the oportu*
ntty of blottiug out the color
line, and, if the experiment
works well, other sections might
adopt the same way of dealing
With the race problem.

to our idle labor to build up
and beautify opr town ; fill it
with conveniences and necessi

You hear the complaint that
our property has depreciated ;
that residences and stores which
cost $1,500 can now be bought
for 1-500. What is the cause?
It is the niggardly, close-fisted
policy of our people and our
government. They have
and killed out every
to build up because it
take a few' dollars—los¬
sight of the fact that they
losing 5 times as many

property because there are
to occupy it. People who

the Rev. Daniell Marshall, aud
was called Kiokee. He was
arrested in church while at
prayer, cat riejd to Augusta and
ordered to preach no more in
Georgia. He answered :; " We
ought to obey God rather than
man, ” a reman? worthy of the
martyrs.

Golden Medical Discovery and Dr.
Pierce’s Favorite Prescription have
cured thousands.
