GIN HOUSE BURNED.
On Wednesday morning Mr.
Jeff Baker had the misfortune
to have his gin house and ma¬
chinery, near Veal’s store, de¬
stroyed by fire, which caught
from friction. Several bales of
cotton belonging to differeuljpar
ties were burned, beeides about
3,000 bushels of cotton seed.
Mr. King, who is a cripple,
had five bales consumed. Mr.
Sam Preston, who was in the
lint room at the time made a
narrow escape.
We understand that there was
no insurance. The loss is a se¬
rious one to Mr. Baker and oth¬
er persons who had cotton and,
seed in and near the gin house.
j We are indebted to Mr. W.
A. Scott for the above informa¬
tion]
Just as we go to press we learn
that Mr. Bat White was strick¬
en with paralysis last Wednes¬
day nignt.
