Death ef Dr, Branham.
It is with sadne^ that we chron
tele ilte death of : be beloved Dr.
Branham, We knew him well
and loved him us a brother. We
puldish below an account of his
funeral ant burial in Forsyth,
Ga.
Forsyth, Ga., November 17.—
The big, laighfc sun sn iled beam¬
ingly down oii a pt palace of
crushed hearts here Friday. .Nev¬
er, perhaps, has there been cast,
a shadow ef deeper sorrow
across this little city than that
which was caused by the death
of Rev. Dr. Isharn E. Branham,
which sad event occurred Friday
morning at Kirkwood, near At¬
lanta. The morning train
brought down tne remains of
this universally beloved man,
whose request was that lie be
laid to rest h°re in the cemetery
among those whom he loved so
fondly and who in return loved
him. The remainswere met
the depot by a vast concourse of
grief-stricken friends and were
taken in charge by the Strict Ob
servance lodge No. IS F. & A.
M. The Baptist church, of which
raented deceased, and when the
casket was placed in front of
the pulpit by the pallbearers it
v as surrounded by a veritable
wilderness of flowers.
Dr. McDonald, cf Atlanta,
who conducted the services,rnad
appropriate scripture, which
followed by a fervent prayer.
Mr. Goode Price, of Macon, sang
with exquisite sweetness, “He
Giveth His Beloved Sleep.” The
congregation sang, “Asleep in
Jesus.” The text read by Dr. Me
Donald was from Timothy iv, 2:
,! For I am now ready to be of¬
fered, and my departure is at
hand.” With tender pathos and
great feeling the speaker refer¬
red to the life work of the de¬
ceased, who was one of his clos¬
est and best f riends. During the
eloquent discourse many hear!
sobs could be beard, and there
were no dry eyes in the iaige
audience. Everybody loved the
cotimed friend before them and
every allusion to him found
lodgment in the deepest recesses
of their hearts. At the conclu¬
sion of Dr. McDonald’s discourse
Rev. R. I 1 . Asbury, for years as¬
sociated with Dr. Branham at
the Monroe Female college,
made a few remarks, in which
he referred to the deceased with
great earnestness and tender
ness. Rev. M. JI. Lane follow¬
ed with an eloquent allusion to
Dr. Branham’s former pastorate
of the church here and the deep
love in which he was field b)
thernembers of his congregation
The remarks of. Dr. Lane were
touching in the extreme. “Om
Sweetly Bolenni Thought” wai
beautifully sung by Miss Undim
Lane and the remains were
borne to pretty Oakland cerne
te.iy, where the great, gentk
heart was left to sleep amonp
those whom he loved so well.)

Some garrulous and aitogetii
t-r irresponsible person 1ms said
iliat when the academy caught
it re a row days ago, Prof. FFm -
il* at once procured a lamp
went up near the mof to inves
ligate and lint! just w here the
fire was located. Of course no
person of sound mind believes
this; I tell this simply to show
ho.w some folks will talk.
Our people are nothing if not
•patriotic. An immense crowd
from this place attended the
position last Tuesday—Georgia
day. Of course all attended be
cause it was Georgia day, and to
make the day a success—the re¬
duction of fare had no influence
whatever. I went to the early
accommodation train with the
intention of getting (lie names

of those . town
got the names m
who didn’t go. The reader will
ti em herewith appended in
order acc0 rding to importance
and social atanding :
One giay unde, named I ave ,
“Bout,’ Sr., col.; The Weekly i
mechanical force and Cliff
man. That the flame of patri
otism burned less warm in
respective breasts is not t ,- ue.
The mule didu’t go because
someone insisted that he should.
“Bom.” didn’t go because the
Georgia road would have ceased
operations in consequence. The
Weekly’s typo didn’t go, for on
that day he went in the country
to gather a mess of turnip greens
given by a benevolent delin¬
quent. Cliff swore he wouldn’t
go with such a crowd, hut would
hie himself to the seclusion of
the post office and there would
vvitn patriotic zeal lick all the
stamps necessary. dais ver y
msiness is having effect on
—he’s gettin’ “stuck up.”)
I said last week that Conyers
should have a public library. Cf
jourse it is not expected that a
town of this size can buy a ii
brary in any very sboi L space
time,but by organizing and pi
mg together we can get one.
As a move in that direction I
propose a plan, which is in op
aration in other towns. ]*t as
many citizens as aie so inclined
irganize and each subscribe a
stated amount, this money to
>6 used in subscriptions to dif
ferent periodicals.
I think that (here are, at least.
>etween fifteen and twenty per¬
sons who will encourage tiiis
movement by subscribing to it
Granted that twenty persons
will subscribe $2 each, ag¬
gregating $40. This would sub
■scrioe for Puck, Judge, Cosino
jobtan, Scribner’s,Review of Re¬
views, Century, Ladies’ Home
.Journal, Munsey’s Sunny South,
and others, each person receiv¬
ing the benefit of the whole
amount raised. Think of it! Af¬
ter this initiation fee the only
cost would be twenty or twenty
five cents per month from each
member, to pay for a reading
room lights, etc. I dare say there
are several persons in town
NO. 4/
whose periodical literature costs
them $10 or more a year, i or
w|fi< h they would receive oily
three or four high class ir.a'ga
By the plan proposed, for
than half I hat amount, a per¬
son lias the opportunity of
leading lift* nil or nor,* >f the
best periodicals in the laud.

A person, who evidently is in
>••’<»• of a change in Georgia’s
divorce laws, mailed Tim Week*
kv a “dipping,"apparently from
some paper, but which in reality
nevi r been published in n /
paper, which recounts at length
a case of a man of wealth who
married and in a short while
expended his fortune gratifying
the wants of his wife. When
the wife had succeeded in min¬
ing him financially she sued for
and obtained divorce.
The story is very remarkable :
in fact so remarkable that I (re¬
lieve it never happened. The
author of the ar ticle chinks the
law should protect these inno¬
cent, trustful persons of the mas¬
culine persuasion,who call them
selves men. If any change is
to be made i.i the divorce laws,
it, by all that is right, be in
favor of*the women,for they are
invariably the losers in the mat¬
rimonial bargain: A woman’s
fair name cannot be estimated
m man’s paltry coin !
