If you area bolter declare it
openly. A traitor in the camp
is meaner than all the open en¬
emies the world can produce.
The future holds no bright
promise for the individual or pa¬
per that knifes the democratic
party at this stage of the game
This is the people’s fight and
the people will not forget.
The fifth district congression¬
al committee met in the Kim¬
ball house parlors in Atlanta
last \\ ednesday and formally
nominated Congressman Liv
ingstou as the standard bearer
of the district. Several
siastic speeches were made aud
Congressman L i v i n gston’s
course as representative iu con¬
gress was heartily endorsed.
Now is the time for all
ocrats to put their shoulder
to the wheel.
Chicago Convention,
The Chicago convention met,
attracted the attention and a
wakened the deepest interest in
every individual throughout and
in the romotest districts of the
Union, transacted the routine
business, nominated candidates
for president and vice with an
enthusiasm, the like of which
was never before experienced,
and adjourned with a deep seat¬
ed conviction that the people’s
voice had been heard and the
democratic party had reclaimed
its pledges of guarantee of‘gov¬
ernment by the people of the
people for the people,’ and that
Willian Jennings Bryan, of Ne¬
braska, accompanied by Arthur
Sewall, of Maine, would lead
the party to victory in Novem¬
ber.
The most intense interest was
manifested by all people, regard¬
less of party affiliations, in the
actions of convention, and that
interest gradually grew into
great enthusiasm as reports from
Chicago reached them- The
nomination of Bryan for Pres¬
ident was eminently satisfactory
to our people and all true dem¬
ocrats believe that he will cer¬
tainly secure election.
Sewall, of Maine was named
as rumiug mate to Bryan, and
while ho is practially unknown
to our people, he is acceptible
on the ground that the people
were in control at Chicago.
Faith in the future of the par¬
ty is unbounded and enthusi¬
asm abounds with all patriotic
democrats. The platform con¬
tains the declarations the people
demand; it advocates the re¬
forms the country needs, and
voters will congregate upon it in
victorious numbers.
The Atlanta Journal is meet¬
ing with undisguised censure in,
this community. Our people
are democratic and muchly
southern and they feel that the
Journal is knifing the party and
the best interests of the south,
By the magic of his utterance
and the power of his intellect,
William Jennings Bryan, of
Nebraska, captured the demo¬
cratic nomination for president.
Great is the achievement but
greater still will be his victory
when he is triumphantly elected
president in November.

Editor Weekly:—I have read
the Kockdale Banner of this
week, and not being able to sat¬
isfy my mind as to how it stands
as to the Chicago platform and
our nominees. I take this means
of inquiring of the editor of that
paper as to what will be its at¬
titude in (lie campaign. The
question is not too personal
neither is it impertinent. The
Banner is a public institution
and has heretofore adhered to
the Democratic party, and since
all papers, of any importance,
that opposed the double stand¬
ard, have either declared them¬
selves in or out of the party, 1
as a democrat and citizen of the
community have a right to in¬
quire of the Banner as above.
If that paper proposes to pursue
the “Sorehead” policy, the peo¬
ple would like to know it now,
if it intends to fight for the
democratic ticket it wants to
discard its “Sulks” and cheer¬
fully come to the front like a pa¬
triotic champion and defender.
Let us here from the Banner.
True Blue Democrat.
After the nominations had
been made at Chicago aud the
convention adjourned in a blaze
of enthusiasm, oue of our es¬
teemed fellow-citizens vehe¬
mently remarked that it was
the only democratic convention
held in years that the Lord was
in half a mile of.
Hon. Steve Clay has opened
up democratic headquarters in
rooms at the Kimball house.
He is placing the political ma¬
chinery iu motion throughout
the state and he confidently ex¬
pects to grind out a democratic
majority of 60,000 in the end.
With Steve Clay at the helm
Georgia democracy is safe.
Brilliant Hal Lewis nomina¬
ted Bryan and made himself
famous.
Georgia ranked first in the
Chicago convention and all her
citizens, except the ‘cookos’, ap¬
preciate it.
Domocracy has declared her¬
self and all those who fail to
get on the band wagon can sit
on the fence etc.
