The Atlanta Journal has a
roused itself from the stupor
superinduced by the recent Chi¬
cago convention and declares in
favor of Bryan and Sewall.
Congressman Livings ton
made one of Ins characteristic
speeches at Anniston, Ala.,
Wednesday eveniug. The Hot
Blast says it was the greatest
speech ever delivered in the
town next to that of Bryan.
That paper declares it a “vote
winning speech and says: “Wish
we had a thousand speakers
like him-”
Chairman Clay is greatly en
couraged by the reports
throughout the state, and con—
fideutly expects a great
cratic victory.
Hon. Joseph E. Pottle, of
Milledgeville, formerly one of
the leading populists of the
state, has written a letter in
whi( h he declares for the dem
ocratic nominees. The Bryan
Hand wagon is filling rapidly.
The populists left the demo
cratie party because their ideas
were not contained in the party
platform. They say now that
t)ie democrats have stolen their
platform. If this be true it is
reason to suppose that our plat
form is not objectionable to
them.
We direct your attention to
the speech of Hon. W. J. Bryan,
of Nebraska, on the first page.
We print it 'because it is good
reading and because it is a
speech that declares a man
good Presidential timber.
As we go to press the St.
Louis convention is still wrang¬
ling over the nomination of
a presidential candidate. The
latest information is to the ef¬
fect that the convention put the
cart before the horse and nomi¬
nated Thomas E. Watson, for
vice-president. Bryan has giv¬
en notice that he will not ac¬
cept the nomination for presi¬
dent unless Sewall is named
with him.
GRAND EXCURSION.

to Milledgeville, Wednesday,

way and Middle Georgia & At¬
lantic Railway, at the remarka¬
ble low rate of $1.20 for the

dren. The train will leave At¬
lanta 7:15 a. m., returning leave
Milledgeville, 8 p. m.
Milledgeville is the old Capi¬
tol and is full of histories dear
to Georgians. Here is located
the lunatic asylum with its three
thousand inmates. The old
State Capitol, the Georgia Nor¬
mal and Indus!rial school, etc.
A game of baseball will be
played for the benefit of the
cranks.
Ladies and children need have
no fear to take this trip as )t is
run by white people, and spe¬
cial reserved coaches will be
placed at their disposal.

The Populist Meeting.
The mass meeting of the pop¬
ulists at the courthouse last Sat¬

ted by our people regardless of
party.

following gentlemen for county
officers:

Some of the leaders of the
gold element in the democratic
party have held a conference in
Chicago during the week rela¬
tive to placing a third ticket in
the field. They decided to hold
another democratic convention
about September 2,
Georgia will give Bryan and
Sewall a rousing majority no
matter how many tickets are
placed in the field or who the
candidates be. The hand of
