Gentlemen— Your letter of
the 20th inst, notifying me that
I was unanimously nominated
as the democratic candidate, at
the session of the senatorial con¬
vention held at Monroe, Walton
county, Georgia, on the 17th
inst., to represent the 27th sen¬
atorial district in the next Gen¬
eral Assembly, has been duly
received, and contents carefully
noted.
In reply to said communica¬
tion, I will say that I cheerfully
accept the said nomination and
the responsible trust thereby
imposed, and will do the very
best I can for the success of the
democratic party in the state at
the ensuing election. And to
this end, I invite the hearty co¬
operation of all good citizens
that our common cause may
be successful, and that our peo¬
ple may have the relief that is
needed.
As to my position upon the
important issues before the peo¬
ple today, I deem it only neces
sars to say that I heartily en¬
dorse the state and national
platform, and should I be elect¬

Death.
Miss Minnie Walker, daughter
of Mr. Mat W alker, of Missis¬
sippi, who has been visiting her
aunt, Mrs. Henry Maddox, for
several months, died at Mr.
Henry Maddox’s home last
Saturday evening about 8
o ’clock of Malarial fever.
She had been sick only a few
days and the morning of the day
upon which the end came, she
was not thought to be so serious¬
ly ill until a few hours before
her death.
The funeral services occurred
at Smyrna Campground Sun¬
day afternoon, conducted by
Rev. Lamar Sims of ♦Jones¬
boro. The interment occurred
in the Smyrna burying ground.

Whereas certain petitioners have
made their application to this court
for an order granting the establishment
of a new road, commencing at the
ner bridge on South river and passing
through lands of Treadwell Bros,
John Bonner, Henry Mosley, D. H.
Bowen, Sam Bowen, Jim Harper, col.,
W, O. Mann and T. G. Swann, inter¬
secting public road leading from Mc¬
Donough to Conyers, via Sims’ Mill,
near residence of T. G. Swann, a dis¬
tance of some three miles; and, where¬
as, the Commisi oners appointed for the
purpose have reviewed and marked out
said contemplated road and reported to
me that said road will be of much pub¬
lic utility and convenience. Now this
is to cite and admonish all persons that
on and after September 14th, 1896, said
new road will he granted, if no good
cause is shown to the contrary.
