meeting, Tuesday, to build a

soon as all arrangements can
pe perfected.
The young people gathered
at the pleasant home of Mr. J .
N. Hale Thursday evening and
spent several hours very pleas¬
antly. Miss Sadie Hale is one
of the most accomplished enter¬
tainers of the younger set and
her parties are always de¬
lightful affairs.

Old Mr. Levi Jarrell, an in¬
mate of the county farm, died
last Wednesday morning and
was hurried on Thursday at
Smyrna. He was sick for a
bout two woeks with grippe and
it was not expected for several
days before the end came, that
he would survive. Other in¬
mates at the farm are sick at
this time, as is also the super¬
intends nt, but none are expect¬
ed to die.

At John II. Almand’s Bank.
Rev. w. D. Almand’s horse
became frightened near the dm
pot last Saturday and ran. Mr
Almand was jerked down and
bruised considerably.
Dr. J. F. Albert furnishes us
an item concerning the birth of
triplets in Lorraine district on
the 16th inst. The mother is
Sidney Ann Wates, col, who
lives on the plantation of Rev
J. F. Rowan. The total weight
of the triplets was 23 pounds.
The two boys weighed seven
and a half each while the girl
balanced the scales at 8 pounds.
They are all healthy.
The Evening Constitution
suggests that if Livingston suc¬
ceeds in passing his bill for the
erection of a twenty-five thous¬
and dollar public building at
Covington, Conyers would jump
him forthwith for a similar do¬
nation. Conyers will wait till
the bill passes before she makes
any move in the matter.
We desire to call attention to
the fact the several loads of
nice white sand, emptied in
front of the Meihodist church
would stop the water from
gathering there and do away
with the mud hole altogether.
The wonder is that it hasn’t
been done long ago.
Mr. A. D. Summers furnishes

did a lushing business last year
and with continued good health
he anticipates breaking all
former records in ’96. Our

has been organized at this place

Messrs- J. F. McCalla and H.
P. Austin. The best talent in
the town has been engaged and
they will appear at our Opera
House at an early date and will,
no doubt, entertain their audi¬
ence as well as any traveling
troup that has shown here in a
long time.
Rev. W. D. Winburn, of Madi¬
son. has been called to serve
the Salem church in Sheffield
district this year, He arrived
here last night and went out to
Salem this morning and will
preach to-day and to-morrow.

Prof. Stark informs us that
the public school has passed
the high-water mark. The stu¬
dents now number 211. From
what vve gather from tlie Prof,
he considers the school inter¬
est of the town in better shape
than it has ever been before.
The professor, with bis accorm

directing the school in a master¬
