Baseball.
Some of the boys have alrea¬
dy begun to speculate as to the
prospect for baseball in Conyers
this season. If is not an easy
matter to secure a good strong
team in a small town and hold
it together through the season,
and the boys are looking about
to determine whether they can
a winning club. We
have some of the best amateur
players in the state and if a few
more good j layers can be enlis¬

will be treated to some
games this ^summer, It is
great treat to witness a close

summer days and many of
people are anxious to get
game going.

The “Bohemians”
The Bohemians, a splendid

was here, and played at Al
inanu’s Hall Saturday and Mon¬
day nights. We witnessed the
performance Monday night, and
despite the fact that the audi¬
ence was not one to inspire the
best efforts of ihe troup, the
performance was splendid. The
ensemble singing was of the very
highest order. The Company
is richly costumed and ttt every
way thoroughly prepared to en¬
tertain the most elegant and
refined audience. The famous
“Mad Scene” from the new

We liat'e been advised by

omitted to mention one of our
most honored and ancient char

may say for the satisfaction oi
: ihese friends that this omission
was not horn of neglect, but
came after mature deliberation
and a final conviction that, in
| consideration to our family, our
personal safety should be our
first and most cherished object.
We trust that this explanation
will prove satisfactory.
Work Begun.
Mr- Westley began work on
the Gee bridge last Tuesday
morning. All the material has
been placed except some that
will be needed toward the finish
and it will be forthcoming in
good time. The work will go
on steadily and in a short time
the bridge will be turned over
to the county.
Special Notice
In another column of this
paper will be found the adver¬
tisement of the Richard Respess
Co., of Atlanta, the prize goods
manufacturers, who have in the
past four months established an
enormous trade for their pro¬
ducts, by originating the unique
idea of putting “Money Prizes,”
ranging in amount from one
cent to $500, in tne package of
goods sent out from their facto¬
ry to the retail stores, as a spe¬
cial inducement for the public
to try same. The prizes are
really placed in the packages,
and are drawn, and the papers
thoroughout the state are con¬
stantly publishing the names
and pictures of people who
drew five, ten. twenty-five, fifty
dollars, etc. in a five, ten, or
twenty-five cent purchase of the
goods.
It will be well for you to give
same your patronage, for you
get quality equal to any brand,
and for the same price, and you
might draw the $500, or one of
the smaller cash prizes, and .* *
you dont, you will get a mer¬
chandise prize of some value, as
the destribution is fair, and you
stand the same chance of get¬
ting the $500 prize in a five
cent purchase as any one. For
full particulars, ask your gro¬
cer or druggist for one of their
(free) circulars.
It is stated that the first
month’s sales of Hon. \V. J.
Bryan’s book brought him in
$16,000,00. He proposes to
give half to the silver cause.

A newspaper man in Conyers
must have only two pair of
pants. If he chances to wear
the best pairfthey are always
farmiliar to the masses) over
Monday everybody wants to
know where he is going and
what he is dressed up for. Yea,
it is real annoying for a paper
man to meet the necessity of
having his week day panls-men
ded.
This reminds us that another
of oar “hignfoued” and worthy
citizens has been forced “to bed"
recently. It is said he witness¬
ed the peifo'Tnance of the Bo¬
hemians at Almond’s ITa’l last
Saturday night, from the roof
of Duke’s fancy grocery store.
So hugely did he enjoy the play
from his “point of vantage” he
began to girate or gesticulate
upon his seat, and upon leaving
his elevated pe»‘chhe left behind
hitn a fair per cent of toll in
the shape of sh'eds of the fab¬
ric used in the construction of
the rear portion of b : i new four
dollar trowsers. lie is out a

a little tender in spots.

Conyers is not to be outclass¬
ed by even the cities. Of course
we have marshals, look-ups etc.,
like other country citiy’s; we al¬
have mayor’s courts, and the
thing that we could be
to be short ou was a “black
and that shortage can’t
said to exist to-day. Our
officers are quick to overcome
obtacles. ,
Some of Conyers’ young men
have been wonderfully exercise
ed in mind and heart since last
Sunday and the result may yet
prove greatly remit rerative to
our Ordinary. The young la¬
dies of the town were so be¬
witching! y beautiful Sunday as
to thoroughly arouse the young
men to the importance of spee¬
dy action. It is a matter of se’f
defense in which the boys must
lead these feminine charmers to
the altar or else see some oth¬
er fellow capture the prize.
It is said that four youug men
have already resolved to put
forth their best efforts in this
direction .
