perry, the slayer of Lanier, is
nearing the gsllows. The onl)
hope for him lies with the Gov¬

one. Perry will likely he hang

Hon. Pope Brown is said to
be squarely in the race for Gov

in his speech before the Agri¬
cultural convention at Tybet
this week.
Brooks and Reynolds, the
murderers of merchant Hunt,
of Jackson county, have been
sentenced to hang on the same
scaffold on September 24th.
It is said that Reynolds is pen¬
itent while Brooks is not.
The aspirants for the govern¬

COMMUNICATED,
Mr. Editor;- I see in the
Banner a statement in regard
to the death of Miss Lula Cook,
daughter of Esquire E • F.
Cook’ of Lorraine district, which
needs some correction. Ilei
sickness was short and very
sever,) from the start. She was
attacked with typhoid fever on
the 23rd of -July and died Aug.
2nd. Dra. Albert and Grace,
with many other kind hands to
assist them, did all that could
have been done for her relief,
but death threw its cold man¬
tle upon her and when just
blooming in girlhood, deman¬
ded all that was mortal of her
and she lias left us in tears.
She was an idol, not only oi
her home, but the community
in which she lived. lusted of
eighteen years, she was thir¬
teen years, 7 months and 29
days old. She was strong ment
allly and physically and was
the very picture of health. She
was oli'able and lovely, possess
ing many of the noble traits
that would lend to make up,
when developed, nol le woman¬
hood
But while blooming she died.
The voice said cry, and he
said, ”\vhat shall I cry? All
flesh is grass, and all the good¬
ness thereof is as the flower oi
the field.
The grass withereth, the
flower fadeth, because the
spirit of the Lord bloweth upon
it: Surely the people is grass

A Good Meeting.
In company with Mayor
Tucker we went out to Rock¬
dale church last Tuesday night.
A general or protracted meet¬
ing is in progress there and from
all indications great good was
derived from it:
Rev - Defoor, the pastor, was
being assisted by Rev. Lamar!
Sims, of Jonesboro, an
and consecrated young
ter, whose future worth to this
denomination promises much.
Rockdale church is a good
large one and it was filled to
overflowing • We were im
nressed with the great number
who seemed anxious to obtain
’’amen” seats in this church.
Benches and chairs were packed
in around the stand until a
typical exhorter would have
found it impracticable to get
in his work in that meeting.
Everybody wanted front seats
and many obtained them at a
sacrifice of comfort. Rev • Mr
Sims preached and the attention
given him indicated the serious¬
ness that hovered near. His
words were forceful and effec¬
tive and at the close of his ser¬
mon, in response to his invi¬
tation, many seekers after the
Light came to the altar.
The meeting closed after the
right hand of christain fellow¬
ship had been extended to nine
young gentlemen and ladies
who had been ’’born again. 11
It was a great meeting aud we
were glad to be there
Later • As we go to press it
conies to us that 34 accessions
have been secured to the church
and still others are expected.
There are already 32 candidates
for baptism and this ordinance
will be administered on Sunday
morning.
Mr. D. N. Hudson iuvited his
friends to a rnellon cutting at
his home one day this week.
He raised some fine ones.

Any sarsaparilla is sarsapa¬

So any flour is flour. But grades

r.o v.ilh sarsaparilla. There are

you understood sarsaparilla as
well as you do tea and flour it
would be easy to determine.
But you don’t. Blow should
you? When you are going to
buy a commodity whose value
you don’t know, you pick out
an old established house to
trade with, and trust their ex¬

when buying sarsaparilla.
