Unworthy Mother.
Great orators have eulogized
the “love of mother ’ and man
has long since learned to rev¬
erence it next to his God, but
it remained lor Mrs. Langdou,
of h i North Tryor street, Atlan¬
ta, to furnish us the unusual
exception to the genuine holi
ness of this “Mother love.”
She lias exceedingly bright and
pretty little girls, l>, I and 9
years of age respectively, and
this scribe assisted in forcibly
removing them from a negro
home on Rosser street, last Sat¬
urday evening, where they had
resided,in care of Julia Means,
a former servant of Mrs. Lang
don, since the Friday afternoon
before.
From all accounts Mrs. Laug
don dosen't deserve the name
of ’’Mother” and i-, indeed, fal¬
Jen low that she has at last
desc-rn 4 her innocent iittle ones
and followed a married man we
know not where.
The three little children ar¬
rived here in the company ol
Julia Means, from Atlanta, yes¬
terday week, and it was given
out that they wore to remain a
month n> the uogro home
This purpose became generally
known on Saturday and it was
determine! by some of our citi¬
zens to remove them at once
The mother was communicated
with and urged to recall hoj
nurse and children at once, bui
she declined to do so, saying
she could not have them return
before Tuesday. This was suf¬
ficient to induce action upon
the part of our humane citizens

A. N. Plunket.
Mrs. Langdon did not answer the let¬
ter. She has had enough of the Con¬
yers business. In fact, she realizes
that it was the Conyers affair that got
her into all tire trouble. She has de¬
cided to let the children remain where
they are for the present.
The Jilt e clii’dren were tenderly
treated by those who rescued them,
they were given much nice candy,
chewing gum and products of soda
founts. In fact, so kindly were they
cared for that the two younger ones
were loth to part with their new
fiiends at the train, even to r -turn
to their mother. Our people are
not expecting them return io here.
Post Office.
With the change of adminis¬
trations there usually follows a
change in a majority of the
post offices of the country, of
ail grades. Conyers has here¬
tofore been among the first to
become agitated upon this ques¬
tion and on more than one oc¬
casion this interest has border¬
ed on the sensational.
Some postmasters have been
known to hold office for a great
length of time and under dif¬
ferent administrations because
of the acceptable manner in
which they served the public
and because of their non-parti
sau conduct. Since the elec¬
tion of McKinley the people of
our town and county have been
unusually quiet concerning the
Conyers post-office and we can
only attribute if tt> the fact that
our present efficient post-mis¬
tress has constantly striven to
give the people the best service
possible. That she has faith¬
fully and successfully discharg¬
ed her duties there is no ques¬
tion and she cannot be charged
with partisanship.
To date we have heard of but
one move tending to her dis¬
placement ami that was a meet¬
ing of colored republicans at the
courthouse last Tuesday night.
This meeting endorsed Mr. W.
F. Harden for the office.
No charges were made against
the present incumbent and the
endorsement of Mr. Harden was
based on the doctrine that “to
the victor belong the spoils. ) >
If we properly understand
the popular sentiment it is vast¬
ly iu favor of Mrs. Melton. The
people are pleased with her ser¬
vice and hope that uo change
will be made.

Ayer’s Cathartic Pills

We hope there may he no

To Farmers,
Now is the time to sow your
fall crops: Rye, barley, turnips
and clover and it is also time
to gather your hay; It is awful
to see our good farmers buying
western hay in the spring to
feed their stock with when we
have better hay that we let go
to nothing when it costs only a
little labor to save it.
Every farmer should sow a
rye or barley patch to graze his
stock on in the early spring. A
