The Election.
Last Saturday the people ol
our county, or a small per cent
of them, voted on the proposi¬
tion to issue bonds to liquidate
the indebtedness of the county.
The vote shows very plainly
chat the people are not in favor
of paying their debts with bonds
and since they have thus plain¬
ly spoken, the presumption is
that our citizens are ready and
willing to open their purses and
plank down the com.
The total vote polled was 254,
JO for, and 158 against, bonds.
From these figures it will be
seen that very great indiffer¬
ence was 'felt by many of the
voters in the county, or else
they would have gone to the
p oils,
Death.
While visiting relatives at
Stockbridge,* Mrs. M. A. Hoi
ingsworth, of Atlanta, died af
;er an illness of only a few
hours last Sunday.
•The remains arrived here
Monday morning. The interr
meat was in Smyrna cemetery.
The funeral was preached by
Rev, Mr. Graves, of Atlanta.
Mrs, Hollingsworth was tin
mother of Mrs. W. G Olotfelter,
of our city.
The Weekly tenders sympa¬
thy to the bereaved.
40 Baptized.
Fifteen hundred or two thous¬
and people gathered at Rock¬
dale Baptist church last Sunday
co witness the baptism of forty
converts by the pastor, Rev
Martin Defoor. So great was
the crowd assembled that many
failed to witness the service.
As a result of the meeting
the church membership was in¬
creased 42—two by letter and
forty by experience.
It was one of the best meet¬
ings in the history of the church
and will long be remembered
by all who attended it.
The meeting closed with the
soon service Sunday.

dence :
To Tiie Merchants.
We want to call the at¬
tention of our merchants to the
fact that the fall season prac¬
tically begins within another
week and that the quantity of
business they do during the fall
and winter months depends al¬
together upon them. They have
it in their power to increase
the volume of business over
that of last fall if they desire.
On the other hand they can de¬
crease >t. When a man
undertakes to do a thing
puts effort behiud it—if we
wood we either chop much
little owing to the effort or de¬
sire as the case may be. Soil
is with our merchants in
business; If they desire much
business they must increase
their effort to secure it, Success
will come in this just as it will
come in any other undertaking,
iu Conyers it will be easier to
attain it because our mer¬
chants are unusually harmoni_
ous. They can and will work
together for the upbuilding of
the comrnerical interest of Con
yers,
Conyers has always been a
splendid cotton market and
with a united effort on the part
of our busiues men to attract
a wider attention from farmers
at a greater distance we will
have the felicitous satisfaction
of beholding crowded streets
here during the next few moths.
Let us now insist that each
and every one of our business
men commence to place them,
selves before the people, if not
one way, then another, and the
good results for such push will
soon be appareht.
The Weekly is with them.
