The latest name mentioned in
connection with congressional
honors is that of Col. J. N,
Hale, of out- city, Col. Halo
has for many years, until quite
recently, been identified with
the press of the State and is
well posted in National affairs.
He has many warm friends in
this county and throughout the
district, who insist that he
would make a most
member, and lie is being urged
>y them to enter the race.
These friends argue-that our
jaunty deserves recognition in
his direction and that a demand
or the same should not be lon¬
ger delayed.
Col. Hale has in a great meas¬
ure regained his health since
urning his attention to agricul¬
ture, and it is possible that he
■ nay be a factor iu the next
congressional campaign.

Flanagan, the paranoiac, cre¬
ated quite a sensation Wednes¬
day morning by stealing from
uis cell, in the Decatur jail,-into
an unused one, leaving behind
aim a note to the sheriff to-the
effect that he had gone with his
friends. The whole country
was soon notilied of his escape
and everybody was looking for
and talking about him.
About 11 o’clock he was
covered iu tire old cell and
a short struggle, in which
came near adding another vie
uim to his list, and was himself
oloodied, he was returned to his
cell.
