Populist Speaking.
General William Philips, a pro¬
minent populist of Cobb county,
made a speech at the court house
in the city last Tuesday. The au¬
dience that greeted the general
was very mu&h mixed, there being
many democrats present.
Cwl. J. R, Irwin was madechair
man of the meeting and introdu¬
ced the General.
His address was listened to at¬
tentively by both populists and
democrats and his sincereity, ear¬
nestness. and fairness, was favora¬
bly remarked upon by those who
heard him. He is well known
throughout the state and will prob¬
ably be nominated by his party
for Secretary of State.
After the speaking a new exe¬
cutive committee was appointed
and delegates to the state conven¬
tion. which is to beheld in Atlan¬
ta. were named.

Again in Error.
La9t week the Banner placed
Maj. Robt. J. Guinn, County
School Commissioner, of Ful¬
ton, “squarely in the race for
State School Commissioner.”
This was an error, as The
Weekly explained last week.
On Thursday the Banner ap¬
peared again and announced
positively, “Maj. Guinu will not
run.”
We will state, for the infor¬
mation of his friends, that Maj
Guinn will be governed in this
matter by the force and nature
of the pressure that may be
brought to bear upon him to be¬
come a candidate for this im¬
portant position.
We trust that this is suffi¬
ciently plain to set the matter
right with all concerned.
