the Epworth League will hold sor
vices in the Methodist church ev¬
ery evening of next week, T1ie
purpose of these meetings will be
to arouse the interest of Leaguers
in religious work. The public is

eight and will close promptly for at

DEATH.
In the death of Colonel Holder on
t ie 24th instant, Newton county lout
one of tier most progressive and pub¬
lic-spirited citizens.
Col. Holder was an honest, honor¬
able old-time southern gentleman of
the ante helium type, being noted
far and near for his kind hospitality.
His noble nature won him the esteem
of all who knew him.
The Holder homestead, a largo two
story residence surrounded hy state¬
ly oaks—a typical southern planter’s
home—was the home of the preacher
and the wayfaring stranger was nev¬
er turned from tbs door empty band¬
ed. It was a rare occurrence when
ths family were without visitors and

We had the pleasure of being at
the reunion of uncle Billy Mitchell’s
family on the20tii hint. Uncle Billy
is one of our oldest citizens; has liv¬
ed near Panola post office iu this
eonntv a long time. All his children
were present with a fine lot of grand¬
children and friends’ children, who
walked around and looked at tin 1 old
(wipeplace until noon at, which time
a long table was sot in tiie yard and
father, mother, ehildmi and grand
children and friends partook of the
bounteous spread before them. Af¬
ter dinner Rev. J F Rowan made a
nico little talk and then we were
treated to speeches by the following
children: „

Emily Stanley, Ada Pace, Grady
Mituhell, Gb nn Stanley, Maud Pace,
Emma Mitchell, (Jura Stanley, Miss
Nellie Pace. Miss Leila George.
We also had a nice talk from Esq.

At four o’clock all repaired to their
liomeH thankful for the day and its
pleasures and hoping to meet again
the last Thursday in July 1900,
Mrs. Mosoly all agsd lady and the
mother of Mr. J. L. Moselv, of Knob,
died last Sunday and was buried at
Ozias olnireli on Monday.
