President Roosevelt is a
much greater man now than
lie was just a few days ago,
We have no doubt but that
he will yet demonstrate to the
world that he is something
of a great American himself.
11 is the source of great
gratification to the people
that Mrs. McKinley bears up
bravely in her sad affliction,
and it is a universal prayer
that she may be given
strength to submit to the de¬
crees of providence and trust
in Him to the end.
Old sister Nation has shown
herself to be infinitely meaner
than those she would injure J
with her hatchet. She was
jr] a( j tlie President was shot
and hoped for his death. She
is about on a par with the
other anarchists and should
be treated accordingly _
The remains of President
McKinley have been laid to
rest in the McKinley burying
ground at Canton, Ohio. He
was one of the best beloved
'of all the Presidents and the
memory of him will be with
the people like that of Wash¬
ington and Lincoln.

r I lie Atlanta Journal has
been complimented from cve
j iy section of of the State on
the superb manner in which it
furnished the news concern
ing the shooting of President
McKinley, and the subse
events up to his death,
The Journal has given ample
proof that it is able to give
the news with great dispatch,
WEEKLY - BANNER-
The W eekjly—Banner
would suggest to the great
daily papers of the state that
they have already said quite
enough about president Roose
velt'ssouthern blood and the!
relation he bears to Georgia.
In the first place it may em¬
barrass the president and a
gain it doesn’t sound well as
coining from Georgians.
The Marietta Journal says ;
Mrs. Ward, ilie clairvoyant,
of Augusta, who predicted
McKinley’s assassination last
June, and who, after lie was
shot, said he would die on the
13 th, now predicts that Pres¬
ident Roosevelt will be assas¬
sinated also very soon by a
crank of religious fervor. ? ?
There is something remarka¬
ble about this woman and
her predictions come too ti ne
for a fellow to appreciate them
when they point to future ca¬
lamity, destruction and death.
President McKinley died at
2 :15 o’clock, Saturday morn¬
ing, September 14 . He was 1
the twenty-fifth President of;
ihe United States and the ;
third one to die from an
assassin's bullet. His death
has caused universal sorrow
over the country and the peo
pie feel that a great calamity’
has befallen them- He was \
bb ood and great as a man,
tL rand and glorious as Presi¬
dent, The people knew not
how much they appreciated
him until they lost him.

dalous controversy between
the physicians, who were in
attendance upon the late la¬
mented President. That no
two of them are agreed as to
the cause that led to the sud¬
den collapse of the patient,
and that it was, apparent!} 7 , a
surprise to them as well as
the nation, has caused inquir¬
ing minds to turn to them for
light. The explanations to
date amount to but little more
than chaiges of one physician
against another and vice-ver
s?. Where it will end or
what the result will be depends
upon whether or not these
eminent practioners know en¬
ough to keep silent.
Emma Goldman, the anar¬
chist leader, says she doesn’t
believe in a God, that she
had rather go to hell than to
heaven, and that marriage is
a sham. Evidently she has
reached the lowest depths
of sin and infamy, and as a
common woman who teaches
murder, ought to be locked,
