The negro lived about half an hour af..
ter the shooting.
Coroner Fo. -'>11 was notified and he
summoned a jury r nd held au inquest.
After weighing the evidence the jury
returned a verdict to the effect that the
negro came to his death by a pistol shot
fired by Mr. Stewart Ha .-is.
As soon as he shot the ne^.o Mr.
Harris left and has not been arrested.
His friends say that he wid give him¬
self up to the sheriff in a few days as he
claims that he did the shooting iu self
defense,

CITY ELECTION.
The city election passed off quiet¬
ly Saturday. There being but one
ticket in the field little interest was
manifested and the voting was cas¬
ual or indifferent. Abaut 100 votes
were cast.
Mr. John H. Almand will be May¬
or during 1902 with the following
gentlemen as his councilmen ; Messrs
C. B. Hudson, W. U. Wallis, M. L.
Wood, I. L. Langley, C. E. Reagan,
and W. R. Still.
The affairs of the city will no doubt
be well looked after bv these offici¬
als and we nope that 1902 may be a
year of progegg and prosperity for
the town.

Happy Marriage.
At the home of the bride’s par¬
ents in this city last Wednesday
evening. Miss Mary Minor and Mr.
Paul Wesley, of Atlanta, wen hap
pily married in the presence of a
large number of relatives and
friends. The ceremony was beau¬
tifully performed by Rev. M. H.
Wesley, the groom’s uncle.
Immediately after the ceremony
the guests wi re invited into the
handsome dining hall where an
efogant wedding supper was serv
ed.
The bridal couple left on the
7 o’clock train for Atlanta, where
their future home will be.
Miss Minor is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. E. P. Miuor,
ig an accomplished and most in
tereatiog young lady whose many
