CONYEES, GA., SATUEDAY MAY if,> 1878
Washington, May 6.—1 he I Lorida
revelations made a very decided impres¬
sion upon the Democrats in both Houses
of Congress. These revelations satisfied
the men whl> have all along wanted an
inVfcfldga ion that one was certain to be
had. They algo made other Democrats
who did not want an investigation ve’y
uncomfortable, because they did not see
how one could be av tided. After the
first effects of the panic pissed off, the
Democrats who did not want an inquiry
began to take Courage. They rea diiy
but quietly chimed in with the or.
gms of the Fraudulent Administration,
which were doing everything to belittle
MoLin’s confession. But by and hy their
home newspapers began to eotne in, and
as one and all were outspoken in their
demand for a full and sea-ching investi¬
gation, they wonld tie enemies of Tilden
began to change their tune. They were
satisfied that there must be an invest.iga*
tion to vindicate the truth of history ;
but no matter what the truth migliL be,
it could not affect Hayes’s title. Day by
day the voice of the people has become
more potential with their half-hearted
representative. Members have heard di
reedy from theij* constituents. Their lo¬
cal newspapers were fierce, but their pol
ilieal friends have been peremptory in
their letters. The result can be predic¬
ted with absolute cettninty. A resolu¬
tion directing the Judiciary Committee
of the House to investigate the bottom
facts connected with the frauds in Flori¬
da and Louisiana will certainly pass the
House tnsmorrow or next day.
It will pass to-morrow if it can bo got
before the House. It will be so drawn
as to be privileged, and it will b“ brought
before' the House unless orders previously
made occupy the entire day. r, ’he reso¬
lution will receive some Republican sup¬
port, how great cannot exactly he slated.
An effort will be made on ihe Republi¬
can side to make the investigation so
broad as to include Oregon, dississippi,
and Alabama This is the on’y hope ot
the few friends of the Fraudulent Ad*
ministration. They do not want the in¬
quiry to be closed at this session of Con,,
gress. They appeal to the Republicans
generally to favor this, because they say
jt is the object of the Democrats lo make
campaign material; therefore they select
Florida and Louisiana a a the two Stales
out of which they can make the most.
The reply of the Democrats to this will
be that if any Republican will produce
any exparte evidence to show any m-vv
facts of importance in regard to what
was done in Oregon, Mississippi, or Ala
bama, they will be included.
In Fa you op Investigating the Pees

passage of the Kimmell bill to investi¬

on the Blair resolution. lie could not
subscribe to the policy of some Demo¬
crats, that it was better to let the matter

the city are known as above. They are
by no means composed of mechanics of
even workingmen exclusively. Many lt
them are saloon keepers, bartenders or
mere idlers, while a pbitioa of them are
laborers, and but few are artisans. The
object of the order is, in their own lan

with very little water in the boiler, which
fact was only discovered at the moment
of the explosion. A piece of the boiler

Hayes Said To be Weakening—A
Washington special to the Baltimore
Suns ay 3 .‘ ‘It, is sated, on : authority
fegrfrd-cl as entirely reliable, that Mr.
Hayes has become imbued with the idea
that after all something way grow out
of the movement to try his tit 1 *?, and that
he now regards it as of the greatest per¬
sonal importance to himself that the next
douse of Representatives shall be Re¬
publican. To this end it is asserted that
no further opposition will now be made
on the part or the administration to Hie
extent, ion ot all the material aid that the
campaign committees can extract from
the .ifiice holders. The authority for
this is of the opinion that for politic rea

ot the Republicans visiting Florida in
1870, to the effect tha f . Tdden was cer¬
tainly entitled to Florida, has, from the
clearness with which it. was made, at'
tention here. Judge Blair stated to-day
that every representative ot the people

the highest form of treason.
One of the most successful counter¬
feiting schemes is to issue a small quan¬

name of the place, President, or cashier
misspelled. Upon discovery the bank
sends a warning through ihe country,
pointing out the error, Then the conn-*
terfeiters make a second issue with the
name or names spelled correctly and (fir¬
cuiate them boldly, knowing that mer

Though the situ lion poluically in En

ported as likely to occur in Constantino¬

there, and a conspiracy is organized to

one else in his place. A day had been
actually fixed for this conspiracy, but the
conspirators were foiled by the presence
