men by the name of Warren and Bivins,
get into a fight in a store in Dalton,
about some slight misunderstanding,
when Bivins beat Warren over the head
until he killed him. Doth of them stood
high in the community, and the circum¬
stance is much lvgrefted, on account of
the distress brought upon their iamilies.

There will be paiade by Tallulah Fire
Company, No. 1, on Tuesday evening
next, at o’clock p. m., from the ware¬
house up to Dec atur street, thence .to Fj
D. McMillan’s cisterny where the engine
will be operated. The Conyers Band
has been invited to furnish musio for the
occasion. Citizens generally, are invited
to be present.

The hail and wind storm that passed
through Georgia on Sunday evening last
did considerable damage to the crops in
Newton cou iitf; especially on the prem¬
ises of Messrs. Worsham, N. C. Lee and
Dr. J. B Hendrick, west of Covington
the crops on the above places wefe liter
ally destroyed. Aloout twenty feet of
the roof of the warehouse ot Clark, Ros¬
ser & Co. was blown off, several out¬
houses and chimneys blo\vtr down; glass
shattered and shade trees demolished in
Covington. The storm was very des¬
tructive to crops, in its entire course
through the Slate. In Columbia county
several houses w 7 ere b’own down and
four or five persons killed. The hit?!

Albany, Ga., June 10.—During the
thunder storm at noon to-day, Welch &
Bacon’s warehouse was sti'uck by light¬
ning and took fire. Two angles of the

cotton were burned. Tbe store corner
and goods were sated. The total Iosj is
estimated at fifteen thousand dollars, in*,
eluding one hundred and thirty bale9 of
cotton belonging to John Jackson, which
w 7 as uninsured, Welch & Bacon were
fully Misfired. The fire eowipanies did*

SECOND DISPATCH.
Welch & Bacon’s cotton warehoifse, in
this city; was struck by lightning to-day
and set on fire. The office and about
half of the storage room with two hun¬
dred bales Of cotton and a quantity of
provisions were burnt. The books and
