PAGE 2A ^Reporter February 27, 2008 bituaries Herschel Clemoth Hopper March 2, 1924 - February 23, 2008 Herschel Clemoth Hopper of Forsyth died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008. Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 25 at First Baptist Church with burial in the Forsyth City Cemetery. The Rev. H. Darrell Watson officiated. Mr. Hopper, the son of the late Herschel Mills and Mary Lillian (Brooks) Hopper, was born in Smarr on March 2, 1924. He was a sergeant in the U. S. Army Air Force at the end of the World War II. He returned to Forsyth after his military service and owned his own television and appliance business for a while. He then went to work at the U.S. Post Office. He became a supervisor and worked at the Post Office until retirement. He was preceded in death by his wife Bertha Burton Hopper, his two older brothers and two of his sisters. He is survived by his sister, Edna Hopper Pippin, his son and daughter-in-law, David and Sharon Binkley Hopper of Forsyth, his daughter Lisa, and his daughter and son-in-law Janice Hopper and Robert Johnstone, both of Duluth; and granddaughter Jennifer Hopper Purser and her husband Philip Purser of Bethlehem. Mr. Hopper was a life-long member of the First Baptist Church of Forsyth. He was well known in the local ama teur radio community. He loved to talk to people on the radio and his happy and sociable spirit made him well known and recognized around town. In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations to the American Cancer Society, Monroe County Unit, PO Box 4406, Macon, GA 31208. Monroe County Memorial Chapel had charge of arrangements. Graveside services were held Thursday, Feb. 21 in Monroe Hills Memorial Gardens in Forsyth with Rev. Marlin Lee officiating. Born in Houston County to the late Irvin Tillman Hester, Sr. and Mattie Lee Davis Hester, Mrs. Shurley was a a retired textile worker. Survivors include her husband of more than 63 years, James E. Shurley, Sr. of Byron; children, Adelaide and Jerell Howard of La Grange, James E. Shurley, Jr. of Byron and Jimmy Lee and Brenda Shurley of Forsyth; six grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Ella Chancellor of Roberta and Irma Jones of Crawford County. Thanks everyone, James Johnson Charles Ray Vaughn November 13, 1961 - February 20, 2008 Charles Ray Vaughn of Forsyth died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2008. Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 23, at Monroe County Memorial Chapel with burial in Monroe Memorial Gardens. Reverend Bob Hooks officiated. Mr. Vaughn was born in Fulton County, Georgia, Nov. 13, 1961. He was a retired tire technician. His mother, Mary Louise Pope Vaughan, preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Julie Vaughn of Forsyth, children, Jerry Charles Vaughn, Nicole Laughridge, Michael Laughridge, Chevy Laughridge, Robert Tomlin of Forest Park, Jessica Vaughn, Amanda Vaughan, Hope Vaughn, Dallas Brown of Monroe County and John Wright of Marietta, father, Grady Vaughan, Sr. of Clayton County, stepmothers, Delores Gill and Glenda Vaughan of Clayton County, sisters, Lisa Heath of Williamson, TinaWells of Dublin and Misty Slappey of Zebulon, brothers, Billy Vaughan of Forsyth, Anthony Vaughan of Spalding County, Ricky Vaughan of Forsyth and Grady Vaughan, Jr. of Lawrenceville. Monroe County Memorial Chapel had charge of arrangements. James R. Wilborn April 4, 1933 - February 12, 2008 James R. Wilborn died in Savannah on Feb. 12, 2008 after an extended illness. A funeral service was held in Forsyth Sunday, Feb. 17 at St. James Baptist Church with the Rev. Adolph Parsons, officiating. Burial was in Forsyth City Cemetery. He was a student in the Hubbard High School graduat ing class of 1952. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on May 24, 1952 and was honorably discharged on March 25, 1958. His parents and brother preceded him in death. He is survived by his son, Lt. Commander Clifford Wilborn; two daughters, Dr. Ann W. Jackson and Dr. LaChelle Wilborn; four grandchildren and a host of Forsyth relatives, including the Ralph Ogletree family. Willis Funeral Services, Inc. had charge of the arran- ngements.
