Emma Jean Bell of Forsyth died Saturday, March 29,
2008. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m.
Wednesday, April 2 at Monroe Hills Memorial Gardens.
The Rev. Darrell Corbin will officiate. Visitation is 6-8
p.m. Tuesday, April 1 at Monroe County Memorial
Chapel.
Mrs. Bell, the daughter of the late William and Norcis
Deal Robinson, was born in Lamar County, Nov. 10, 1941.
She was a homemaker and attended New Beginning
Pentecostal Church.
Survivors include her husband, Nathan H. Bell Jr. of
Forsyth; children, Patty Johnson of Forsyth, Stacey Curry
of High Falls, Billy Curry and Len Curry of Forsyth; sis
ters, Judy Robinson of Barnesville, Mary Shields of
Milledgeville, Sandra Wimberley of Barnesville and
Nancy Hatchett of Concord; brothers, Danny Robinson
and Jack Robinson of Barnesville; nine grandchildren
and two great-grandchildren.

Lula Mae Bankston Davis
Mrs. Lula Mae Bankston Davis died March 24, 2008 at
the Heartland Hospice House in Dunwoody. Funeral
services were held March 31 at Mt. Pleasant Baptist
Church with the Rev. Hosie Waters officiating. Interment
was at Mt. Pleasant Church Cemetery.
She leaves to cherish her memories, daughter,
Claudette (Fred) Singleton; sons, Douglas Davis, Jr.,
Cyrus (Cynthia) Davis; nine grandchildren, six great
grandchildren; sister, Lillian Watson; brother, Brutus
(Dorothy) Bankston; a devoted friend, Mrs. Beverly
Josey; and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins,
and friends.

arrangements.
Clifton Love
Clifton Love, 77, of Forsyth, died Friday, March 21, 2008
in Coliseum Hospital after a brief illness. Services were
held Friday, March 28 at Towaliga County Line Baptist
Church in Jackson. Burial was in the Forsyth City
Cemetery.
Mr. Love leaves to cherish his memories a devoted wife,
Rachel Love; daughters, Vivian Moore and Deniece (Pete)
Jones of Forsyth; sons, Derrick Love of Forsyth and
Derwin Love of Stone Mountain; 14 grandchildren, 18
great-grandchildren.
Freeman Funeral Home of Forsyth had charge of the
arrangements.
Dr. Darlene Debault Mettler
Dr. Darlene Debault Mettler, age 65, died Friday, March
28, 2008 at Heartland Hospice of Macon.
Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at
4 p.m., Wednesday, April 2 at Christ United Methodist
Church in Forsyth, where she was a member, with the
Rev. Renfroe Watson and the Rev. Brent White conduct
ing the service. The family will greet friends immediately
following the memorial service at the church.
Born in Effingham, Ill., to Rev. Delmar and Eileen
Debault, she grew up in Kissimmee, Fla. and pursued a
teaching career, earning a BA from Milligan College, an
MA from the University of South Florida, a Ph.D. from
Georgia State University, and the CELTA from
Cambridge University, England. Among her teaching
positions over 45 years were Macon State College, Tift
College and Wesleyan College, where she taught English
for the past 21 years.
At Wesleyan she received the following awards: Ann
Munck Excellence in Teaching; Honors Professor of the
Year; Student Government Professor of the Year;
Methodist Board of Higher Education Exemplary
Teaching. She also held the Cobb Alumnae Chair of
English. For many years she took Wesleyan students to
London, bringing textbook material to life. She spent
sabbaticals in England and traveled to Peru on a
Fulbright appointment. Membership in professional
organizations included the Iris Murdoch Society, for
which she served as American Membership Chair.
Interests included British theatre, Irish literature, and
travel. With her husband she explored many parts of the
world, living for a period in Mexico, England, and Spain.
She was also a versatile pianist.
She is survived by George, her husband of 40 years; son
and daughter-in-law, J.D. and Amy Mettler; son Sean
Mettler; brother and sister-in-law Lee and Carol Debault,
sister and brother-in-law Cindy and Jack Craig, and
mother Eileen Debault.
In lieu of flowers Dr. Mettler’s family suggests that
memorials be made to Wesleyan College, 4760 Forsyth
Road, Macon, GA 31210.

Angeline Ash DeLeGal Roquemore of Forsyth died
March 28, 2008 in Glendale, California. Funeral services
will be held at First Baptist Church in Forsyth, at 11
a.m., Saturday, April 5, with burial in the Forsyth City
Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Monroe
County Memorial Chapel.
She was born November 19, 1924, the daughter of the
late C. Herbert and Melba E’Dalgo Ash. She was a gradu
ate of Mary Persons High School and Bessie Tift College.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Forsyth,
where she sang in the choir and soloed for over 50 years.
She was an associate member of First Baptist Church,
Glendale, California. She worked for many years for the
Monroe County Board of Education and retired from
Georgia Power Company’s Plant Scherer. She had been a
chorus member and soloist for the Macon Civic Chorale.
She was a founder of the Meals on Wheels program of
Forsyth First Baptist, past president of Forsyth AARP,
and member of the UDC Cabaniss Chapter.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her
first husband, Philip DeLeGal of Forsyth, her beloved
grandson, Philip Peters, also of Forsyth, and her son-in-
law Wayne (Josh) Joswiak.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Thomas
Lucian Roquemore of Forsyth and of Glendale,
California; a daughter, Melba DeLeGal-Joswiak, of
Forsyth and Mexico Beach, Fla., a son, Herbert Delegal
(and Michael Wayman) of Louisville, Ky.; three grandchil
dren, Angie Rooks (and Jarrett), Karl Peters (and Chuck
Putvin), all of Forsyth, and Andrew Ard (and Dana) of
Clarksville, Indiana; and two great-grandchildren,
Makenzie and Angeline Ard, also of Clarksville; and her
friend and helper, Isabel Alas of Glendale.
There will be a memorial service at First Baptist,
Glendale, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, family mem
bers suggest memorial gifts to Meals on Wheels at First
Baptist Church, Forsyth, the music ministry of First
Baptist Church, Forsyth, or to First Baptist Church,
Glendale, California.

Viola Shannon Stafford of Forsyth died Thursday,
March 27, 2008. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m.
Wednesday, April 2 at Freeman Funeral Home chapel
with burial in Rest Haven Cemetery.
Survivors include her daughter, Annie Nell (James)
Laster of Forsyth; son, Calvin (Freda) Bank Jr. of
Goldsboro, NC; sisters, Velma Harvey of Forsyth and
Floral (Horace) Jarrell of Macon; brothers, Roosevelt
Shannon, Edward (Mae) Shannon, Wesley Shannon and
Melvin Shannon, all of Forsyth; three grandchildren.

Dorothy E. Stokely
September 28, 1935 - March 27, 2008
Dorothy Elizabeth Causey Stokely, 72, of Whitesburg
passed away Thursday, March 27, 2008 at Tanner
Medical Center in Carrollton.
Mrs. Stokely was born Sept. 28, 1935 in Ranburn, Ala.
She was the daughter of the late Henry Virgil Venable
and the late Erma Elnora Huey Venable. She worked as
a cosmetologist and was of the Baptist faith. In addition
to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother,
Cecil Venable; sisters, Opal White, Ruth Thomason, and
Lennie Mae Venable; and daughter in-law, Glenda
Causey.
Survivors include her husband, David L. Stokely of
Whitesburg; daughter and son in-law, Teresa and H.T.
"Bucky" Bowen of Whitesburg; sons and daughter in-law,
Tommy H. and Patricia Causey of Oxford, Ala.; and the
Rev. Michael W. Causey of Forsyth; step daughters and
sons in-law, Teresa and Randy Nantz of Lakeland, Fla.;
and Susan and Charles Rudolph of Davenport, Fla.; her
loving step-mother who raised her from childhood, Velma
Venable of Temple; sisters and brothers in-law, Margaret
Watson of Mt. Zion; Patricia and David Driver of Temple;
and June and Cecil Prince of Carrollton; brothers and
sisters in-law, Donald and Mary Jim Venable of Tyus;
Harold and Jean Venable ofValrico, Fla.; and Douglas
and Carol Venable of Temple; 16 grandchildren; 14 great
grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services were held Saturday, March 29 at the
Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home in Villa Rica with
Rev. Michael Jeremy Causey officiating. Interment fol
lowed at Hillcrest Cemetery in Villa Rica on March 30.

James Clifton “J.C.”Suttles
James Clifton “J.C.” Suttles, age 75, of Monticello, died
Monday, March 24, 2008, at Jasper Memorial Hospital.
Clifton Suttles was born in Westminster, S.C. to the
late Buford J. Suttles and Sudie Earl Collins Suttles. He
moved to Monticello in 1963. He was of the Pentecostal
faith. He owned and operated S&S Lumber in Monticello
for a number of years. Twin great granddaughters, Lily
Heidel and Madeline Heidel, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Vinnie
Marcengill Suttles of Monticello; children, Doug Suttles,
Shirley Suttles and Ricky Suttles, all of Monticello, Patsy
S. & Hulon Bennett of Juliette, and Cathy S. & Gerry
Malcom of Good Hope; grandchildren, Keva Suttles, Tara
Suttles, Amy Bennett, Jessie Bennett, Faith Malcom
Heidel, Katie Malcom, Nick Malcom, Jacqueline Suttles,
and Brittney Suttles; great grandchild, Jace Campbell;
and sisters and brothers, Evelyn Smith, Geraldine Butts,
Grace Cobb, and Don Suttles, all of Westminster, S.C.,
Hugh Suttles, and Gladys Dover, both of Walhalla, S.C.,
and Vera Edgar of Seneca, S.C.
Funeral services were held March 27 at Jordan
Funeral Home. Burial was in Williams Payne Cemetery.
Rev. Ted Edgar officiated. The family suggests in lieu of
flowers donations be made to the Cystic Fibrosis
Foundation, 2302 Parklake Drive, Suite 210, Atlanta, GA
30345.
