The Forsyth Kiwanis Club will
host a blood drive at the city hall
annex from 2-7 p.m. Thursday,
April 3. A photo ID is required.
Johnson to speak to
Juliette River Club
The Juliette River Club meets
at 7 p.m. Thursday at the
Juliette fire station. Terry
Johnson will be speaking on
hummingbirds. Refreshments
will be served.

Smarr fire station hosts
yard sale
The volunteers of Monroe
County fire station 10 are host
ing a yard sale Saturday, April 5
to raise money for much-needed
equipment not included in the
county’s emergency services
budget. There will be lots of
household items, furniture,
books, clothes and much more.
Most items will be $1 or less.
Take 41 south to Rumble Road.
Cross railroad tracks and turn
left on Evans Rd.
Hubbard Alumni to
crown queen and king
The annual Hubbard Alumni
Association King and Queen
Contest will be held at 6 p.m.

Scottish Terrier dog show
to be held
The 31st annual specialty show
for Scottish terriers will be held
at the Central Georgia
Convention Complex on April 5.
The show begins at 9 a.m. with
the puppy sweepstakes, followed
by a parade of AKC champion
Scotties and an AKC sanctioned
specialty. There is no charge for
spectators. For more information

Juliette Opry
The Juliette Opry will have the
Slim Pickins Band performing at
7 p.m. Saturday. They are from
Jackson and play traditional
Hank Williams Sr. music. Open
mic will begin at 6 p.m. There is
no admission charge. The
Whistle Stop Cafe is open until 9
p.m. serving dinner.

Bass to present
program on Forsyth’s
confederate statue
Ralph Bass, retired Tift College
professor and member of the
board of directors of the Monroe
County Historical Society, will
address the society at its April 7
meeting at 7 p.m. The history of
the Confederate statue, located
on the Monroe County court
house grounds, will be the sub
ject of his presentation. The
meeting will be held in the
Bittick-Fletcher Building next to
the Depot Museum.
Girl Scouts to tour
Depot museum
Girl Scout Troop #387, under
the leadershp of Kesha Everett,
will tour the Monroe County
Historical Society's Depot muse
um April 7 from 3:30-5-30 p.m.
The tour will count toward earn
ing the Girl Scout local lore
badge for each scout participant.

Meet Goddard, candidate
for U.S. Congress
Monroe Countians are invited to
meet Rick Goddard, a Republican
candidate for Congress from
Georgia's 8th Congressional Dis
trict, on April 8. Goddard will
speak to the Monroe County Re
publican Party at 6 p.m. on Tues
day, April 8 at This Little Piggy
BBQ on Indian Springs Drive.
Goddard is a retired U.S. Air
Force major general and current
ly serves as vice president and
chief technology officer at Mercer
University. He is a decorated
Vietnam veteran and from 1997-
2000 was commander of the
Warner Robins Air Logistics Cen
ter. The public is invited to hear
Goddard speak and ask ques

Hubbard Founder’s Day
Celebration will be held on the
grounds of the National
Historical Hubbard Dormitory
on Hwy 83 South at 3 p.m.

garden will be unveiled.

Hubbard Alumni to hold
annual banquet
The Hubbard Alumni associa
tion will host its annual banquet
at 7 p.m. Friday, April 18 at
Hubbard Middle School. The
guest speaker will be Dr. Ralph
Simpson, area superintendent of
DeKalb County schools. Ticket
cost is $35. Contact Annie

Hubbard Days parade
and annual celebration
The annual Hubbard Days
parade and celebration will be
April 19. The parade begins at
10 a.m. Concessions and enter
tainment will follow on the
grounds of the Hubbard
Dormitory. Parade entry $35;

Rotary Club Spring Fling
The Forsyth-Monroe County
Rotary Club is holding its annu
al Spring Fling fundraiser April
19 from 8 p.m. - midnight at the
Central Georgia Convention
Complex. The musical guests
will be Soul Purpose. Tickets are
$35 per person or $250 per table

Friends and fami
ly of June Eaves
invite everyone to
join them as they
celebrate her 75th
birthday April 5.
The birthday party
will be held from 2-
4 p.m. Saturday at
the Monroe County
Club House (across
from the Monroe County
Library).
Since relocating to
Monroe County in 1979,
Eaves has been an advo
cate for families
with limited
resources. She
worked for 14
years at Monroe
County
Cooperative
Extension
Service. Even
after retiring to
care for her elder
ly mother, Eaves continued
to volunteer. She worked
as director of the Circle of
Care Thrift Shop for 12
years before finally resign
ing for health reasons two
years ago.
Even now, Eaves says her
passion to help remains.
She is still available to
teach basic money manage
ment classes to young fam
ilies free of charge. Eaves
has touched many lives in
her 75 years, but she
remains humble and
thankful for the opportuni
ty to give back.
“I praise God for leading
me here and guiding me to
His purpose,” says Eaves.

Hubbard Alumni to raffle Chrysler Sebring
The Hubbard Alumni Association is raffling a 1998 Chrysler Sebring during its annual
Hubbard celebration. Tickets are $25 each and are available at BB&T Bank in Forsyth,
from HAA members or by calling HAA president W. James Green at 478-973-1743. Tick
ets must be purchased before April 4. The lucky winner will be drawn Friday, April 18 at
the annual banquet. You do not have to be present to win. The car is displayed around
town at the various
