Resident suspects
missing pups used
for dog fighting
BY LAURA THACKSTON
An anonymous source called the Reporter last week
concerned about the possibility of a dog fighting ring.
The caller said eight dogs have gone missing on
Weldon Road, including one of her own, and she is
concerned about the safety of those dogs.
The source said her dog has never wandered off
before, except when it goes in the woods to play. She
has talked to a few others in the area who are missing
dogs and they are just as concerned as she is. She
said she thinks dog fighters may be taking little dogs
to throw in the ring with the pit bulls. She contacted
Save-A-Pet and the Monroe County Sheriffs Office,
but her dog has not turned up. The source said Save-
A-Pet reported the problem has also been occuring in
Butts County. She said she would like to make people
aware of the situation so no one has to suffer the loss
of a pet like she has.
Parolled drug trafficker
back in the slammer
BY LAURA THACKSTON
An Atlanta man who had been released from prison
for drug trafficking was caught again with marijuana
and almost $4,000 in cash while traveling on 1-75 last
week.
Officer Greggory Phillips of the Forsyth Police
Department and Lieutenant Darby Colvin of the
Dooly County Sheriffs office were conducting traffic
enforcement on June 23 when they noticed a Toyota
Camry swerve outside of its lane. When police stopped
the car, they could smell marijuana coming from
inside the vehicle. The driver, Audrea Lamount
Lawrence, told police he didn't have his license
because it was suspended for child support and drug
charges. He also informed police that he was on
parole for drug trafficking.
Lawrence was found with a large amount of cash
that he said he got from selling clothes, but couldn't
produce documentation or receipts. Lawrence also had
12 prepaid VISA cards in his pocket with the names of
different people printed on them. Lawrence said the
cards belonged to a family member and were used for
buying clothes.
Lawrence was arrested for failure to maintain lane
and driving while his license was suspended. The car
was searched and misdemeanor amounts of marijua
na were found inside. At the Forsyth Police
Department a receipt was given to him for the curren
cy, which was $3,729. Lawrence was transported to
the Monroe County Sheriffs Office for further book
ing.
