Now leasing in
Monroe County
Atlanta development compa
ny IDI has cleared the timber
off its new 253-acre tract at
1-75 and Rumble Road so it
can begin marketing the
property as a distribution
center. Lisa Ward, vice presi
dent of leasing for IDI, said
the installation of sewer,
power, water and roads to
the park should be complet
ed by October. She said
workers will pour a concrete
pad on the site and may
erect a speculative building
in the spring or summer of
next year. Ward said she’s
already getting inquiries
about the property and said
it’s an excellent location with
ready access to 1-75. IDI
bought the property from the
Monroe County Development
Authority after the authority
agreed to issue $11.5 million
in bonds. The money will be
used to develop the tract and
IDI will pay back the bonds
in lieu of paying property
taxes. IDI has said it plans
eventually to construct six
buildings with about 3 mil
lion square feet of distribu
tion warehouse space, which
could bring as many as
1,500 jobs to Monroe
County. But much of that
depends on the market for
commercial real estate.

I'm pleased to say that I have been a Monroe County Bank customer since 1937. For many
of you reading this, that's so long ago, it must seem like the ice age or when our Founding Fa
thers were signing the Declaration of Independence. I'm exaggerating a little, but it has been
a long time. I confess that I am a happy 91 year old lady who still places her confidence in
the best bank in town (in my opinion). I taught school in Monroe County for 23 years. In
1937,1 deposited my first payroll check in the amount of $ 100. That was a lot of money back
then! You could buy a loaf of bread for a nickel, a pound of bacon for 13 cents, an ice cream
cone for 5 cents, a hamburger for ten 10 cents and a gallon of gas for 20 cents. Wow! Can
you believe it?
In 1939, when I married, Monroe County Bank helped my husband and me with the
money we needed to start housekeeping. We didn't own our home back then, but the Bank
gave us a loan so we could furnish our apartment, which we rented for $12.50 a month.
When we did build our own home, the Bank helped us over the years with many home im
provement loans. They also helped us with car loans. As you can imagine, we've worn out a
lot of cars in the past 71 years!
I have found the Monroe County Bank to be superior in everything they do. Anything I
needed in the way of banking, they always been there for me. There are not enough adjectives
to describe what a great Bank they are. I couldn’t be more pleased!
