James Richard Alexander Jr.
James Richard Alexander, Jr., 57, died Saturday, July
19, 2008. Funeral services were held July 26 at Pine
Grove CME Church, Culloden. Burial was in the church
cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Bernice Alexander of
Forsyth; mother and father, Doris and James Alexander
of Culloden; children, Bernice and Tiffany High of
Forsyth; five grandchildren, 10 sisters and brothers, a
number of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and in laws.
Freeman Funeral Home of Forsyth had charge of the
arrangements.
Hazel Lue Sanders Dumas
Hazel Lue Sanders Dumas, 40, passed away Thursday,
July 24, 2008 at the Medical Center of Central Georgia.
Funeral services were held Sunday, July 27 at Freeman
Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was held at Forsyth City
Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband Leon Dumas; twin sons
Demonte and Devonte Harden; a friend Jerome Harden;
father Arthur Sanders; three brothers of Texas and
California and four sisters of Georgia.

arrangements.
Lena Hay good Garrett
Oct. 17,1945-July 21,2008
Mrs. Lena Haygood Garrett, 62, of Yatesville, died
Monday, July 21, 2008, at Upson Regional Medical
Center. Graveside services were held July 24 in the
Emory’s Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev.
Mike Martin officiating.
Mrs. Garrett was born on Oct. 17, 1945, in Monroe
County to the late Thomas and Mary Haygood. She
worked as a weaver at Aldora Mills for many years.
Survivors include her daughter, Mrs. Tracy (Gene)
Isbell of Yatesville; a step-daughter, Mrs. Robin Bryant of
Thomaston; a son, Mr. Bobby (Angie) Roberts of
Thomaston; a brother, Mr. Ronnie Haygood of Texas; a
sister, Mrs. Mary Queen Morphis of Texas; four grand
children; and five great-grandchildren.
Coggins Funeral Home had charge of the arrange
ments.
Emmett Dempsey (Jack) Pitts
August 31,1922 - July 26,2008
World War 11 veteran
Emmett Dempsey (Jack) Pitts, 85, of Forysth died
Saturday, July 26, 2008. Graveside services were held
Tuesday, July 29 at Forsyth, City Cemetery. Reverend
Franklin Etheridge officiated.
Mr. Pitts, the son of the late Emmitt Lee and Letha
Dorton Pitts, was born August 31, 1922 in Spalding
County. Mr. Pitts joined the United State Marines in
1941 and served until October 12, 1945. He served tours
in Guam, Iwo Jima and the Guatel Canal. After the
Marines he was employed as a Deputy Sheriff in Griffin,
and then he joined the Revenue Department where he
was employed for ten years. He joined the Barnesville
Police Department where he was employed for three
years and he later joined the Department of Corrections
for 20 years, retiring in 1985. In 1985 he returned to
work as a Deputy U.S. Marshall, where he was employed
for three years in the Russell Building in Atlanta. He
was a member of Searcy Memorial United Methodist
Church in Griffin, a member of the Peace Officers
Association, a member of the Forsyth Golf Club, a former
member of the VFW and American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Rennie Pitts of Forsyth,
daughter, Margie Baker Greene of Gray, four grandchil
dren, several nieces and nephews.

American Cancer Society, Monroe County Unit, PO Box
4406, Macon, GA 31208, American Heart Association,
PO Box 409410, Atlanta, GA 30384-9410, or to the
Marine Corps League, DET, 970, 920 Cochran Street,
Byron, GA 31008-0832.

James Leon Rollins Sr.
Father of Keith Rollins
James Leon Rollins, Sr., 86, of Bolingbroke died
Thursday in a local hospital. He was the father of local
real estate agent Keith Rollins.
Memorial services were held Sunday at Ingleside
Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Hudgins officiating.
Burial was private for the family in Riverside Cemetery.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial contri
butions be made to Ingleside Baptist Church, 834
Wimbish Road, Macon 31210.
Mr. Rollins, husband of the late Chris Bailey Rollins,
was born in Ballard County, Ky., the son of the late Earl
and Lillian Moss Rollins. He served with the U.S. Air
Corps as M/Sgt. from 1941-45 and was former owner and
operator of the Checkered Apron Restaurant in Macon.
After his love for his family came Mr. Rollins' love for his
church, Ingleside Baptist Church, where he served as
Director of Food Services. He spoke often of his sadness
in not being able to attend his church in recent months. -
Survivors include his sons, James L. (Angie) Rollins Jr. of
Macon and Keith Bailey Rollins of Bolingbroke; four
grandchildren, Jaime Rollins Mitchell, Christine Rollins,
Mark Rollins and Ken Rollins; three great grandchildren,
Emma Mitchell, Quentin Rollins and Sadie Rollins; his
sisters, Gladys Owen of Barlow, Ky., LaWanda Williams
of Bessemer, Ala., Virginia Karnes of Cleveland, Ohio and

Vivian Leigh Suiter
July 22,1942 - July 22,2008
Vivian Leigh Suiter, 66, died Tuesday, July 22, 2008.
Graveside services were held July 26 at Roberta City
Cemetery. The Rev. Franklin Etheridge officiated.
Mrs. Suiter, the daughter of the late Clarence and
Sarah Matthews Wilson was born July 22, 1942, in
Crawford County. Her husband, Albert Suiter and her
sons James Suiter and Anthony Suiter preceded her in
death. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her daughter and son in law, Virginia
and Danny Fleming of Juliette; sisters, Clevie Scruggs of
Crawford County, JoAnne Moran of Milledgeville, Mary
Giles of Roberta and Clyde St. Germaine of Rhode
Island; grandchildren, Joseph, Anthony and Jayde
Fleming.

Sandra Patterson Watson
March 23,1956 - July 26,2008
Sandra Patterson Watson, 52, of Jonesboro, died
Saturday, July 26, 2008 at Southern Regional Medical
Center in Riverdale. Funeral services were held July 28
at First Baptist Church of High Falls with burial in the
church cemetery.
Mrs. Watson was born March 23, 1956, the daughter of
Ruby Patterson and the late Gordon Patterson.
She is survived by her husband, Bobby Watson of
Jonesboro; daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Edward
Leon Upchurch of Jonesboro; son and daughter-in-law,
Tommy and Izzie Jett of Temple; grandchildren, Emily
Madison Jett and Jason Tyler Upchurch; mother, Ruby
Patterson of Jackson; brother, Christopher Patterson of
Thomaston; sisters, Cheryl Bryant of Stockbridge and
Patricia “Patty” Wallace of Cumming.
Sherrell, Wilson, Mangham Funeral Home of Jackson
had charge of arrangements.
Gladys Tingle Williams
Monroe County’s 4-HLady
Gladys Tingle Williams, 72, passed away July 26, 2008
at Monroe County Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Funeral services were held July 28 at Monroe County
Memorial Chapel with burial at Rocky Creek Baptist
Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Williams was the daughter of the late Mortimer
Lafayette and Emily Eugenia Fort Tingle. She was born,
educated, lived and worked in Monroe County all her life.
She retired from work with the University of Georgia
Cooperative Extension Service as 4-H program assistant
after 23 years of service. After her retirement she contin
ued to serve the youth of Monroe County through volun
teering with the 4-H Club
where she was affectionate
ly known throughout the
state as the 4-H Lady. She
loved every 4-H’er that par
ticipated in the 4-H pro
gram as if they were her
own children.
She is preceded in death
by her husband of 54 years,
James Otto Williams, and a
brother, Robert Lanier
Tingle. She is survived by
her daughter Benae
Williams Hogan of Forsyth,
sons, Barry Otto Williams
of Jackson, Luther Franklin
Williams and Terry Lee
Williams of Forsyth, seven
grandchildren and seven
great grandchildren.
