New truck may bring better fire
protection to northern Monroe
Residents of northern Monroe County have better fire protection now that Station 6
in Cabaniss has a new $195,000 fire truck. The county bought the truck in May with
sales tax funds. The county is also manning Station 6 on weekdays now with part-
time help, currently in the person of Rusty Allen. Station 6 volunteers include Doyle
Brookshire, Chris and Pam Chambers, Walter Ellison Jr., Billy Marks, Donna Allen
and James Brookshire, shown with District 4 commissioner Jim Peters. (Photo/Will

Kids back in school?
What a great time to clean that nasty carpet
Cory and Margaret McCook, with kids Allen and Katelyn, are giving cus
tomers the cleanest carpets in Middle Georgia.
C arpet Cure Inc. is owned
and operated by Cory and
Margaret McCook in the
little town of The Rock,
Ga. near Barnesville.
Their floor care business is very
well known in Macon and Warner
Robins for their pet stain and odor
removal capablility. Often times
they are able to restore their client’s
carpet way beyond expectations.
“Sometimes we even impress our
selves,” says Cory. On the easier
side of cleaning, Cory says they
enjoy making folks feel like they did
when they moved into their new
home or first had their carpet
installed. “We enjoy our own ele
ments of satisfaction when we see
how much of an impact we have had
on how that person’s home looks,
feels and smells. In fact, we’ve
cleaned for many carpet retailers
and professional Interior Decorators
and after they experience our servic
es we have noticed that we get a lot
of referrals from them. That is
great for both businesses.”
Cory says he reads and studies a
lot to gain and keep an edge on his
competitors. “We want to use the
newest and best technology avail
able. That’s why last year I traded
out our units and got two 2007 van
mounted heat exchange units from
White Magic, Inc. This manufactur
er has received the CRI (Carpet Rug
Institute) Gold Seal of Approval for
its extractors. There are a lot of
cleaners out there and we want to
set ourselves apart from the average
and strive to be the best in our
industry. That’s another reason why
we developed our exclusive 7 step
cleaning process.
No one else offers
this and we guar
antee it to be your
most thorough
cleaning ever. It’s
unbelievable!
We’ve gained a ton
of experience over
the past 4 years.
Last year, with two
van mounted units,
we cleaned over 1500 homes and
several hundred businesses. When
you are doing that much cleaning
it’s pretty easy to keep and improve
your skills.”
Carpet Cure
offers a variety
of cleaning
servces.
Among their
most popular
are carpet,
upholstery, tile
and grout, and
air duct clean
ing. Carpet
Cure is
insured for
residential and
commercial
cleaning and is
certified by the
IICRC
(Institute of
Inspection,
Cleaning, and
Restoration
Certification)
which allows
them to do
warranty work
for Shaw and Mohawk carpets.
They also won the BEST IN BUSI
NESS award for the carpet and
upholstery cleaning category in
Middle Georgia for
2007.
Cory has not always
been in the carpet
cleaning business.
After graduating from
MPHS, he went on to
college in pursuit of a
music degree. While in college, he
met is wife, Margaret, and both
graduated GCSU with Bachelor of
Arts degrees in Music. Fresh out of
college, Cory accepted a full-time job
at Fellowship
Baptist Church
in Thomaston as
Minister of
Worship. Several
years later, he
was called to
Christ Chapel
Community
Church in
Zebulon to serve
as Children’s
Minister. This is where Carpet Cure
came into the picture. Pastor Billy
Smith had started Carpet Cure in
2001 when he left Christ Chapel in
Macon to start Christ Chapel in
Zebulon. He needed to provide for
his family while the church was in
its beginning stages. Building on
hard work, integrity and Christian
values, the business
and church grew and
grew. “I was asked to
come on staff at Christ
Chapel but there was
no way a one-year-old
church could pay me
full time so Billy and I
worked it out where I was able to
take over Carpet Cure. I never saw
carpet cleaning in my future, but
I’m not complaining. Where God
Guides, God Provides! And it’s
great, owning your own business,
especially a successful one. And my
wife and I are still able to fill our
ministry calling without being total
ly reliant on the church for income.”
Cory and his wife Margaret reside
in The Rock with their two kids,
Allen (1) and Katelyn (4).
