Students in the News
Bucldey named to SoCon honor roll
Zack Buckley, a Forsyth
native and junior at
Georgia Southern
University, recently was
named to the Southern
Conference 2007-08 ath
letic Academic Honor
Roll. To be included on
this list a student must
participate in varsity
sports and earn a 3.0 or
higher GPA while pass
ing a minimum of 24
hours of classes for the
year. The Academic
Honor Roll was estab
lished by the Southern
Conference athletic direc
tors in 1988 to recognize
the league’s outstanding
student-athletes.
Buckley, a HOPE scholar,
made the Dean’s List for
the Spring 2008 semes
ter. He is majoring in
exercise science and is a
goalkeeper on GSU’s soc
cer team. Buckley, a 2006
Mary Persons graduate,
is the son of Bob and
Kathy Buckley.

just $6 next month, and the proceeds
will help support the Georgia D.A.R.E.
program.
Monroe County D.A.R.E. officers Clay

FFA, 4-Hers compete
in Perry lamb show

On July 12 the 4-H
and FFA members
showing lambs went
to Carrollton for the
West Georgia Lamb
Classic. On July 26
they went to Perry for
the Farm Credit Lamb
Classic. The next day
they were in Perry for
the GCLPA Futurity
show.
Highlights from the
shows include: In the
West Georgia Lamb
Classic Jessica White
placed 2nd in weight
class with one of her
lambs and with anoth
er lamb won first place
and reserve champion.
Chelsea Williams and
Cody Ham each placed
3rd in their weight
classes. In showman
ship Chelsea and Cody again each placed 3rd in their
classes. In the Farm Credit Lamb Classic Jessica placed
3rd in weight class with one of her lambs. In showman
ship Chelsea Williams placed 5th in her class. In our
most recent show, the GCLPA Futurity, Tula Blue
Waldrep placed 3rd in weight class, Jessica White placed
1st with two of her lambs and placed 2nd with the other
one. She also won reserve champion. Chelsea Williams
placed 3rd in her weight class with one of her lambs.
Christopher Williams & Chelsea Williams each placed
4th in their showmanship classes. Jessica White placed
1st in 6th grade showman
ship at all three shows this
summer.

Attention Southern Rivers Energy members:
