photographs.
Forsyth Lions to revamp calendar;
need birthdays, anniversaries
The Forsyth Lions have
been doing community
service activities since the
1920s and 30s. The last
charter being 1936. The
club has as a member,
Merle Freeman who's hus
band Bill was the 1936
charter president. Mrs.
Freeman will soon cele
brate her 97th birthday
and still maintains perfect
attendance at meetings.
One of the longest tradi
tions of the club is the pub
lishing of the Community
Birthday Calendar. No one
is really sure what year
the calendars began, but it
has been over 40 years,
since there is a 1967 calen
dar in a scrapbook.
Several members of the
club recently met to make
plans for the 2009 calen
dar. The committee decided
there are just too many
names of folks that either
have died, moved, or are
no longer interested in the
calendar. So, for the next
calendar all names will be
removed and the Lions
will add only the ones who
subscribe for the new one.
During the next few
weeks, the
Lions mem
bers will be
soliciting
names for the
2009 calendar.
If you want
the 2009 cal
endar, don't
wait for some
one to call
you. You need
to act now. If
you were on
the 2008 cal
endar, you will
not automati
cally be on the
2009 calendar.
You must sub
scribe again.

The 1967 calendar included a photo of many youth in the summer recreation program. Can you identify
anyone? Maybe yourself? There are three advertisers of the 1967 calendar that are also on the 2008 cal
endar - Dairy Queen Brazier, The Farmers Bank and The Monroe County Bank. Many of the 1967 adver
tisers no longer are in business. And some of the 2008 were not in business in 1967.
