Does
Forsyth
need
more
police?
BY JOLEE VAUGHN
One of the reasons many
people make their home in
Forsyth is because it is a
safe place to raise a family.
But with two armed car
jackings in downtown
Forsyth in a
month, that
safety has
come into
question.
Ronnie
Daniel, owner
and operator
of the
Forsyth Dairy
Queen, present
ed that question to city
council members at their
Aug. 19 meeting, held just
days after a shooting and
carjacking at his restau
rant. The incident has res
idents wondering whether
they take their safety for
granted.
“This isn’t supposed to
happen here,” said Daniel.
“But we have a lot more
going on now than we did
35 years ago.” He com
mended the police depart
ment stating, “everything
was taken care of profes
sionally, and the police
responded in a timely man
ner.” However, Daniel did
ask the council to consider
adding a patrol car on
Friday, Saturday, and
Sunday nights. He feels
this additional car “would
give residents a peace of
mind.” No arrests have
been made yet.
Later in the meeting,
councilman Lamar Russell,
chairman of the public
safety committee,
addressed the issue stat
ing, “police can’t be every
where, but maybe we
should consider security at
places open late at night.”
Russell also very emphati
cally said, “This guy will be
caught. They are very
close.”

Monroe County Bank
swapped vaults earlier this
month, moving the vault
used when the bank
opened in 1908 to the
bank’s original location on
the courthouse square.
Later, workers moved this
antique vault that was in
the old bank location back
to the bank’s main branch.
American International
Movers did the work.
Among those helping push
the vault are Andrew
Willis, Tony Ussery,
William Hanks, Sammy

MONROE COUNTY BANK
Local. Listening. Leading.
Since Mr. Bill Bazemore has taken over the bank operations, things have not changed. It was
a seamless transition. I have done some improvements to my business and with Mr.
Bazemore s knowledge, friendship and guidance I was able to accomplish that with ease.
It is always a pleasure to visit the bank as everyone there treats me and everyone else with true
professionalism. The staff is very courteous and will always go out of their way to assist you.
I would recommend anyone young or old, small business or large to become a member of the
Monroe County Bank family. I can never say enough about the friendship that has been
shown to me by Monroe County Bank.
off the ground 99
In early 1988 I opened Monroe County Memorial Chapel and needed a small business loan.
Mr. Hill of Monroe County Bank brilliantly structured my loan in a way that truly made it
possible for me to get my business off the ground. Mr. Hill made me feel as though the
funeral home was his personal project. His personable telephone calls and encouragement
have helped tremendously and made me feel like a valued member of the community. I have
now been a customer with Monroe County Bank for twenty years.
