Good-bye blue carpet, hello hardwoods
Workers are restoring the original hardwood floors in Monroe County’s historic main courtroom after
ripping up royal blue carpet that had covered the floors there since the 1980s. It’s the latest improve
ment in the effort to renovate the historic courthouse. Clerk of court Lynn Ham, a member of the court
house renovations committee, said the main courtroom had been carpeted for at least the past 30
years. Committee member and probate judge Karen Pitman said they hope the work on the floors will
be finished by the end of the month so they can hold court there. Meanwhile, Pitman said they had not
yet heard from tree experts as to whether the remaining trees on the square should be cut down. The
courthouse lawn is in disrepair until crews install an irrigation system and implement a new land
scape design.

Forsyth Frame Shop celebrates opening
Forsyth now has its own frame shop, one that offers the broad array of expertise and services you’d ex
pect to find at a big-city shop. Owners Josh and April Ellerbee celebrated the grand opening of Forsyth
Frame Shop with a ribbon cutting ceremony last Thursday. The ceremony was sponsored by the
Forsyth-Monroe County Chamber of Commerce. Forsyth Frame Shop is located in the former Forsyth-
Monroe County Chamber of Commerce building on Tift College Drive. They carry a large selection of
picture moulding and mat boards for custom picture framing and art conservation that will beautify,
display, and preserve your art, photos, prints, documents, etc. The Ellerbees are long time Forsythi-
ans who love the town of Forsyth. “We have had such positive and friendly response from the people
of Forsyth,” said Mrs. Ellerbee. “Even though Forsyth is growing, there is still a friendly, small town
feel. We love that!” Cutting the ribbon are John and April Ellerbee, with daughters Karleen and Evelyn.
Also on hand are George Valente, Lee and Jeanine Willingham, Tye Howard, Pam Davis, Brooke Pi-
ceno, Joy Piceno, Matthew Piceno, Joseph Piceno, Kelly Piceno and Laurie Lee. Forsyth Frame Shop
is located at 267 Tift College Drive in Forsyth. Call 478-994-5144. Hours are Monday-Thursday 10
a.m.-7 p.m. and Friday 10 a.m.-2 p.m., closed Saturday and Sunday.
